PFT notes that Jerry Jones turned down a "significant offer" for one of his players, one that wasn't a running back:
"We had a significant offer for a key player that we turned down and turned down in getting in more extended dialogue for, " Jones said. "It was a very firm, significant offer for one of our young players."
I can't imagine who has the package of draft picks required to make a firm, significant offer for Bobby Carpenter.

Lane Johnson and D.J. Fluker were selected high in the draft, but both have troubling flaws in pass protection according to Word of Muth.

Re: Jones Turned Down "Significant Offer"
Martellus Bennett maybe was player becausue another team might think with Jason Witten there maybe dallasa trade Bnenett for right dela. If not that guy then maybe Anthony Specner
Re: Jones Turned Down "Significant Offer"
Adam Schefter reported this morning that the player was, indeed, Bennett. Good job, Joe.
Re: Jones Turned Down "Significant Offer"
thanks. Based on quote and based on hoow much Cowobys like Bennett it made most sense that player was Bennett
Re: Jones Turned Down "Significant Offer"
Joe is my hero in every way imaginable, and several more of which you cannot conceive.
Re: Jones Turned Down "Significant Offer"
Why isn't there a "like" button on these message boards?
Look at me. Look at MEEEEEE!
Quick everyone pay attention to Jerry Jones. Quickly!
Re: Look at me. Look at MEEEEEE!
He's a pretty natty dresser right now, but how long before he starts shopping at the same place Al Davis buys his shiny track suits?
Then again, wrinkly attire might draw unwanted attention to that trampoline-tight forehead.
Re: Jones Turned Down "Significant Offer"
it is rumored to be Anthony Collins (LT) and an r5 pick for Marcus Spears.
Re: Jones Turned Down "Significant Offer"
Quick, we need to figure out which NFL owner is most like Gob, given the phrase involved. "Firm offer? Oh, I'll make you a firm offer."
The clueless son that wouldn't have survived without his wealthy father's money...oh, yes, it's definitely Mike Brown.
Re: Jones Turned Down "Significant Offer"
"I hope you're not looking for a handout, Michael. I run a pretty tight ship around here."
"With a pool table."
"It's a gaming ship...."
Re: Jones Turned Down "Significant Offer"
...so long as Michael doesn't bring that pothead son of his....
Re: Jones Turned Down "Significant Offer"
In a way, Cowboys Stadium is pretty much the sports equivalent of F--- City...
Re: Jones Turned Down "Significant Offer"
OK, I'm dumb - could somebody explain this thread?
Re: Jones Turned Down "Significant Offer"
Arrested Development quotes and references.
Re: Jones Turned Down "Significant Offer"
Jerry is refering to a plastic surgery consultation he had the other day, not a trade request.
Re: Jones Turned Down "Significant Offer"
Detroit offered a 1st, 3rd, and 5th for Roy Williams due to Calvin's injury. Jerry thought Roy was worth 3 1sts.
Re: Jones Turned Down "Significant Offer"
I can't imagine Spears was involved. He's gone after this year, he's been nothing but mediocre since day one.
Re: Jones Turned Down "Significant Offer"
I'd like to say it was an offer for Jay Ratliff from the Chargers.
But more likely it was the Redskins offering something vaguely ridiculous for someone fairly poor. Two first round picks for Romo?
Re: Jones Turned Down "Significant Offer"
Romo is 'fairly poor'? Would you like to speculate o what the Cowboys' record would be during the last 3 years without him at the helm? I'm thinking they'd have a few top 10 picks on the roster at the moment.
Re: Jones Turned Down "Significant Offer"
Romo is not great...but better than most. Have you noticed how inaccurate he has been this year? Someone like Kyle Orton, however, while not as flashy is highly accurate and probably could have made many of the 4th quarter throws against the Broncos that Romo was not because he was behind/ahead/over/short of his receivers. Just referencing the 2 games I saw of him that Dallas lost...I attribute not to the play calling but his lack of accuracy or sync with receivers.
Re: Jones Turned Down "Significant Offer"
Romo's inconsistent, but a lot of the faults from this season are a product of the talent around him. He gets pressured as frequently as any QB in the game. He doesn't have a single consistent WR. His offensive coordinator doesn't send out his best receiver (Witten) to catch passes in the red zone.
The Bronco game in particular was not his best, he struggled with accuracy, but it is a very different game if Miles Austin runs the right route. The Cowboys have the ball very close to Denver's end zone, as opposed to Denver getting it back on an unquestionably beautiful Champ Bailey pick. The supporting cast in Dallas is greatly overrated; the pass blocking is subpar, the receivers are average.
EP titles
The previous EP was titled "Pisa Tinoisamoa Out For Year", and this one is "Jones Turned Down 'Significant Offer.'"
So, with a name like Jones, there's no need to specify which one, but there are so many Tinoisamoas that we need clarification.
Re: Jones Turned Down "Significant Offer"
I don't think it was for clarity (which Tinoisamoas they were referring to) but more because his name is just so fun to type and say together. Type his name and then type JJ's and record your feelings /facial expressions.
see!?
Re: Jones Turned Down "Significant Offer"
ESPN is saying it was the Bengals trying to trade for Martellus Bennett. Real shame for the Cincinnati media it was turned down, he and Ochocinco would have made a great tandem for quotes.
Re: Jones Turned Down "Significant Offer"
Just a suggestion but next time maybe your headers should include full names since there's something like a million dudes named Jones that play in the NFL and it could easily be contract offers or who knows what.
Re: Jones Turned Down "Significant Offer"
I think the only player Dallas has on its roster I'd trade a draft pick for is DeMarcus Ware. Ratliff is a good thought, but he's no Jamal Williams.
Re: Jones Turned Down "Significant Offer"
When I glanced at the article at first I thought it read "Jones turned down Significant Other."
