Lions Unveil New Uniforms, Logo, Font

You've got to start somewhere. The Detroit Lions have unveiled a new helmet logo, wordmark, and uniforms. The new logo is more detailed and, when viewed next to the old one, looks more like, well, a lion. The uniform changes are subtle; they're still wearing silver helmets and pants with Honolulu blue jerseys and black trim. (On that note, why does a team in Detroit wear a color called "Honolulu blue?") Pictures of the uniforms available here.

Well, I always liked their rather plain looking throwback uniforms that they often wore during the Barry Sanders era. Anyway, this is pretty much a same sh#t different day type marketing ploy. I love how the press release is titled "Lions Unveil New Comprehensive Brand." I guess getting rid of Millen is a start, but, as a Lions fan, I would rather our team went 10-6 wearing pink polka-dot jerseys with neon green pants than the more likely 3-13 with these jerseys.

Anyway, in other related news, I'm giving this idea to any Lion's fans that still are rabid and go to games.
1. Dress up like Dark Helmet from the comedy Space Balls (add Lions logo and other embellishments!)
2. Carry a sign that says "I see our Schwartz is bigger than yours" or "May the Schwartz be with you."

Anyway, as you can tell, I'm more excited about the Schwartz coaching era than the unis.

As a supporter of the Lions due to regional factors, I really hope they start to win. They have been the worst sports franchise in the last 50 years. They squandered one of the greatest athletes in history to such an extent that he walked away in his PRIME. They seemed to have the right idea when they let Millen stay for a while despite pundits, fans and basically everyone else saying otherwise; everyone also says that stability is key (See: Steelers, Titans). It would just be nice for them to be competitive again.

Is that too much to ask?

At the least the Pirates won three World Series in the last 50 years (even if this is the 30th anniversary of the last one) and another seven division championships.

As a non-Lions fan, I'd like to see them win. I don't like seeing perpetual losing teams.

They balance out the 'non-native' shade of blue by also using the 'Detroit roadside snow' gray.

Probability that the new unis will help them break from their tradition of non-excellence; low.

if Lions play in arena league would beat every team in league if playing by nfl rules. if playing by area lryles would probably win all the time too but games be closer cause in the arean league mass of the players is not as important as speed and quckness which would allow the aeran players an adnvantage

That's sure a long way of saying "Hey, we added some lines to the logo so it actually looks like a lion now, and uh- oh, that's pretty much it. Wait- plus we wrote the word "LOINS" in this fancy new script!"

I like it, though- always thought the logo was sort of atrocious; it's nice that they updated it in a non-ridiculous way.

(No, they didn't really spell it "LOINS," but I was hoping they would.)

I get the fact why an 0-16 team wants to change their uniforms. BUT, since when do "LIONS" have STRIPES??? They made the stripes bigger and bolder, but wouldn't that make them BENGALS? Are they trying to steal some of that winning magic from Cincy just a little Southeast of Detroit? You may say, well, who cares about Lions and Stripes. I say that this is just indicative of a failed franchise that cannot solve the simplest of problems.

the biggest takeaway from the press conference had nothing to do with the logo, uni, etc. The fans in attendance repeatedly chanted "Don't draft Stafford" and "Curry, Curry" to help the Lions front-office make the right choice.

Hmmm, a new logo and then an updated typeface. I rarely like high profile uniform changes for losing teams, but the truth is that this is a very complete jersey and I see it being a significant contributor for the next 20-30 years.

Well that is a weight off my mind. I like the Lions uniforms, and was a little worried they'd change them to something crap. Although....yeah, not sure why this needed to be announced, as its a ridiculously minor change. Still, I'll probably be them on Madden this year. I like a challenge, Ford Field is a nice looking stadium and their uniform still looks good.

The rumor is that, after moving to Detroit from Portsmouth, Ohio, the Lions owner decided the team needed new uniforms. Couldn't find an internet reference for this, but that's the story I've always heard.

I liked the old outline of the Lions (nicknamed "Bubbles" by fans) better. It's not a huge change, so I can't hate it too much, but uniform changes suck in general. It's typical Lions, playing in a dome, changing the unis, doing things football teams shouldn't do.

They are going back to the throwbacks at an alternate jersey, rather than the unfortunate Millen-era black jerseys, though. I like that.

The city of Alameda experienced a 16.27% increase in median sales price from last year going up from $510,821 (Dec. 08) to $593,919 (Dec. 09). By itself, this increase in median sales price does not reveal much in terms of market recovery however, when compared alongside median days on market and number of units sold, the pieces start to come together. Median days on market for a house in the city of Alameda for December 08 was 51 days compared to a meager 39 days in December 09 and number of units sold is up 10 going from 28 homes sold to 38 homes. The increase in sales price coupled with a 23.41% decrease in median days on market and a 35.71% increase in number of units sold suggests that people are willing to purchase houses despite the increase in sales price.
