So, does the Titans' performance get better or worse? Wait, CAN it get worse?

I don't they can get worse. They probably stay the same, but are a little more entertaining and prove that Young is a bust so they can move on.

In general, teams that start a new QB after an old one does poorly do a bit better. Mostly because teams do not have a lot of film on the new QB and don't have as much scheme against them.

In this specific case, you'll probably see a small bump but nothing major. Jacksonville won't have a ton of time to revise their practice, but they've played VY before and there's plenty of film they can study.

I suspect that regression to the mean has something to do with it as well. Teams that bench their QB are generally doing lousy.

I understand that when you're winless at this point, you need to do what you can to change things up. And the passing offense has been anemic. However, I thought Collins played well but was let down by his receivers when Ten played the Jets. I'm open to persuasion by folks who've paid more attention to Ten than me, but I suspect Collins is not the problem.

Whether or not Collins is the problem, he's ancient, and Young is pricey to keep around. In a lost season, the Titans may as well find out whether Young can be the future or whether they should use another top-5 draft pick on a QB.

I've been arguing for this for about 3 weeks, way back to when the season was only 99% lost, as opposed to 100% lost like it is now. For better or worse (better, since I'm a Colts fan), Fisher seems to have taken the approach of waiting until the season is completely beyond hope before putting Young in. In all likelihood, this speaks volumes about how likely Fisher thinks VY is to make a positive impact, and must do wonders for Young's already-suspect confidence. Still, I'm pleasantly dumbfounded by his insistence on doing NOTHING to shake things up until it no longer mattered.

Dear God, Yeah, it's me, Bob. Okay, I've made some stupid promises, most of which I cannot keep straight. So, what is it I owe you for this...? I give up drinking? Cursing? Yelling at the kids? Wait, was this the volunteer in the homeless shelter one? Please I hope it's not the keeping to the speed limit one. Oh, I know, now I have to call Dad every day, even though he only calls me when the Colts lose, to say "So what happened to that great team of yours?" That's it, isn't it?

Please let me know when you get a chance, Sir. And thanks, anyway.

This has Bud Adams written all over it.

and I think the sad fact is that Fisher now has one foot out the door (and not sure if he's being pushed or not).

Is it time to submit rosters for the second half of Loser League yet? Vince Young and Jamarcus could be a potent combination.

Exactly my first thought. My LL roster for the QB position in the second half is now filled.

God damn it, Fisher. We've seen the Vince Young show already. Give the American public what it really wants: A LenDale White wildcat.

{newscaster voice} Today, the Panthers gave in to the inevitable, and named Matt Moore as the starter for the Arizona Cardinals game. ... oops ... I'm getting some additional information... What? They're starting Jake?! AGAIN?!!! You've gotta be @#$%ing me!!! {coughs} My apologies folks. It appears the {mumbles} current {cough}Panthers coach is going to stay with his veteran, even though he is the 34-ranked QB out of 32 teams.

Tune in next week, when we have an inside look at the pictures Jake is holding over the Panthers Front Office.

Looking back at Young's 2006 and 2007 stats, I was surprised to see his DVOA as high as -8 and -7. Folks having been talking about him like he's been J. Russell. He really wasn't much worse than Matt Leinart. Sure Young didn't show much or any improvement from year 1 to 2 and he's sucked in limited in action in years 3 and 4, but he wasn't that bad. He just hasn't lived up to the hype from the Rose Bowl and probably never will.

by tuluse :: Thu, 10/29/2009 - 5:56pm

He's rushing DVOA went from 3.1% to -9.7%

I can't wait for him to "lead" the Titans into Indy later this year. LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL

Pretty sure the Luke will be quiet and respectful, golf-clapping and all, while the stadium staffers put up those yellow diamond signs that say "fragile psyche ahead."

I'm sure a cursory search would find the "Vince Young just wins" arguments from his 1st two seasons when his passing was below NFL standards.

Who cares about winning. Vince Young is 20x as fun to watch as Collins. And if you suck, you should at least suck with style.
