ACL Tears Come in Threes: Kevin Faulk, Jerious Norwood, Jewel Hampton

OK, maybe I'm stretching a bit by reaching into the college ranks for the third guy, but that's three running backs who are gone for the year after ACL tears announced today. Kevin Faulk is the most important of the three: his role as a receiver is probably overrated but his role in pass protection on third downs is likely underrated. Jewel Hampton, for NFL fans who don't know him, is a promising Iowa sophomore who lost last season to a right knee ACL tear and will now lose 2010 to a left knee ACL tear.

Link goes to a Faulk story.

I wonder who the new blitz pickup guy will be for the Pats. Taylor had some good blocks the first couple of games. I wonder how much they'll trust Brady's life to this Woodhead guy they just signed.

Sammy has the best blocking skills and hands of the 3 RBs left on the roster, but nobody has Faulk's wiggle and nobody can make a defender miss.

Maybe Julian Edelman?

deceptively good blocking?

ugh. this whole season is filled with FUUUUUUUUUU so far.

maybe they can just throw alge crumpler back there in shotgun sets...it's not like any of the other guys are sweep/draw threats. might as well shore up the pass protection with a guy who at least used to be able to catch at one point and thus can provide at least a hint of a threat of doing something other than blocking the inevitable blitzes to come

Do the Pats now wish they still had Maroney?

No.

Iowa's running game is apparently cursed. IIRC, they were down to the fourth-string RB last year, and now one of them goes down again? @#$!!!!

Can't say I've ever heard of Jewel Hampton. But from the sound of things, ACL tears were meant for him, and he was meant for ACL tears.

Him and Jenkins both, sadly

Oh my, that's either brilliant or awful. Let's call it brilliantly awful.

Same old story, not much to say.

it's too bad. He was really good backing up Shonn Greene as a freshman. He was ~30lbs lighter, but ran so hard against Ds that had already been mostly battered into submission by Greene that you almost couldn't tell the difference in the results.

These foolish games are tearing ACLs apart.
