Broncos Sign LenDale White

RB LenDale White went home today and signed a 2-year deal with the Broncos.

Strange move. Especially cutting Kolby Smith. I don't get it.

To be rose-colored about it, it's White's hometown and maybe he'll be nice and humble now after Seattle dumped him. Plus he probably wouldn't contribute much the first four games, anyway.

Moreno does have a slight hamstring tear. I mean.... I guess hes a decent enough name to sign into camp just in case that lingers. Sign him and at worst hes a camp body and maybe you get some use out of him? I dunno just looking for the logic.

So Cutler and Marshall had character issues McDaniels wouldn't tolerate, but LenWhale is all of a sudden ok?

Oh, I get it. Josh McDaniels is a ruthless drug lord in real life. This is just to keep his customer happy.

I actually like the signing. Hillis is gone, so there's no big back. I'm not sold on Moreno's ability or durability to be a workhorse. Ditto Buckhalter. White did have a combined 1900 yards and 22 touchdowns in 2007 and 2008, and he's still young. I'm not sure he's not the most talented back on the roster.

I'm wondering how much the Broncos are missing Hillis right now. That kid looked promising and then he gets traded away.

Promising talent doesn't matter at all if you can't or won't learn the playbook. I'm not entirely certain that was the explanation, but it seems way more likely than Hillis insulting McD's wife, Hillis spilling McD's wheaties, or any of the other theories I've seen.

Character issues may not be as big a deal for players that have no leverage. White can get cut in the blink of an eye and he knows it. So it's a low risk move, at least for the short term. If he's an out of shape drunk McDaniels will just cut him. The Broncos were pretty bad in short yardage situations last year and that is White's specialty, so the move makes some sense on paper.

What's interesting to me is that Kolby Smith was cut to make room; he was next in line in the depth chart behind the injured Buckhalter and Moreno, so it's strange that McD would cut Kolby rather than either of the no-name players supposedly behind him. Maybe the depth chart is just a depth guideline, or maybe Kolby pissed Josh off.

He was cut 3 months after signing with his last team by the coach he won a national championship for...what more do you need to know??

I look at this move as confusing for most teams but par for the course for the McDaniels' era.

White was awful, and then had a suspension. What happened to suddenly make him worth signing at all, let alone to a two year deal?

Maybe the perspective of having been cut twice and suspended? Not to compare their skill levels, but Vernon Davis had an attitude turnaround too.
