Bryant McKinnie has been removed from the NFC's Pro Bowl roster after missing several practices and the team photo. McKinnie was reportedly out clubbing the night before practice, which wasn't the smartest idea, but he also Tweeted about it, which was even worse.
McKinnie likely collected a bonus thanks to his Pro Bowl appearance; such bonuses are usually worth about $1 million nowadays. It remains to be seen whether the Vikings will try and recoup that bonus.

Re: Bryant McKinnie Kicked Out Of Pro Bowl
What's dumber: Partying all night, missing practice, and getting benched from the Pro Bowl, or playing in the Pro Bowl and risking injury?
And I'm guessing that his bonus was for being named to the Pro Bowl, not playing in it. If that's not true, he should fire his agent.
Re: Bryant McKinnie Kicked Out Of Pro Bowl
He already did. Ben Dogra was his agent when he signed his current deal. Drew Rosenhaus is now.
However, more to your point, yes that would be a good reason to fire the agent (and maybe hire an actual lawyer to do this from now on, but that's another matter entirely).
Re: Bryant McKinnie Kicked Out Of Pro Bowl
It was hard, but he did it because he honestly didn't feel he belonged in the pro bowl (and he was right).
So he made the sacrifice to stay out all night clubbing and skipped the practices, because if he refused to go he'd be lambasted for doing so.
Re: Bryant McKinnie Kicked Out Of Pro Bowl
Wow, he's not only a team player, for getting kicked off the pro bowl squad since he didn't deserve it, but I guess he's also really really smart, for devising a way to get taken off the squad without making it look like it's stupid to play in the pro bowl.
What an awesome guy!

Ah, maybe this link instead: http://www.nationalfootballpost.com/Report-McKinnie-kicked-off-Pro-Bowl-...
The other one had me confused, because it just said he missed practice. Also, his Twitter says he chose to withdraw because of injuries, which I am not in position to evaluate for veracity. Assuming this is him, of course, which I think it is.

Overall, I'd be kind of embarrassed to critique something when I didn't know what the hell I was talking about, but then, oh yeah, my NAME is on what I write, isn't it?

Does a hangover count as a concussion-related injury?
Re: Bryant McKinnie Kicked Out Of Pro Bowl
wouldn't it be a greater punishment if they made him play?
Re: Bryant McKinnie Kicked Out Of Pro Bowl
only if made him play naked
Re: Bryant McKinnie Kicked Out Of Pro Bowl
that would be a punishment for us watching the game, more than for him...

You know those kids in Guatemala with the Patriots 19-0 shirts? The ones in the Sudan with the NY Jets 2009 AFC Champs shirts? They're forced to watch it. Poor bastards....

Bryant needs to learn that he, alcohol, and South Floria combine to a dangerous cocktail. Cocktail! Ha, ha! I'm like Henny Youngman over here.

Take my bonus... please!
Re: Bryant McKinnie Kicked Out Of Pro Bowl
Wait, you have to practice to play in the Pro Bowl?
Re: Bryant McKinnie Kicked Out Of Pro Bowl
Being told you can longer play in the Pro Bowl is like being told you can't serve jury duty on a sequestered jury right before your favorite team makes it to the Super Bowl.
Re: Bryant McKinnie Kicked Out Of Pro Bowl
I think he'll regret this when he never gets voted into the Pro Bowl again and thus never receives another bonus for being named to the Pro Bowl. The other players are angry at him, so I can't see them voting for him in the future, and the coaches likely will feel the same way.
Re: Bryant McKinnie Kicked Out Of Pro Bowl
McKinnie is in the middle of a 7 year, $48.5 million contract extension. Thus, he makes a $433,000 salary for each game. Somehow I don't think he'd be too bummed about missing out on the $35,000 winner's bonus.
Re: Bryant McKinnie Kicked Out Of Pro Bowl
I wasn't referring to the winner's share (which I think is actually $45,000, not $35,000 as you said). If you reread my comment, you will see that I referred to the bonus for being named to the team. As stated above, "McKinnie likely collected a bonus thanks to his Pro Bowl appearance; such bonuses are usually worth about $1 million nowadays."
By the way, I'm sure his contract isn't fully guaranteed and that to receive the full value, he would have to satisfy various incentive clauses (many of which he likely won't attain). One such clause presumably has to do with being named to the Pro Bowl (or perhaps multiple Pro Bowls).
So he may yet regret his actions if he never makes the Pro Bowl again. Of course, it's not as if he won't make a lot of money in his career. But considering how players typically like to make as much money as they can and considering how many players blow their money and end up broke when their careers are over, I think one day he will regret what he did.
Re: Bryant McKinnie Kicked Out Of Pro Bowl
Of course he was "named to a pro bowl," he just got kicked out. So it could still count for a bonus.
Re: Bryant McKinnie Kicked Out Of Pro Bowl
Right. But my original comment was that he is unlikely to be named to the Pro Bowl again and thus won't be able to achieve that incentive again. That's the part he will regret.
Re: Bryant McKinnie Kicked Out Of Pro Bowl
He also twitted about it... oh humanity.
Fitzgerald Skips Pro-bowl
In a partially related note, Larry Fitzgerald missed the probowl due to injury.
I bring it up because, if you've been following his tweets this weekend, you'll know that he is somewhere tropical. Golfing with his father and taking surfing lessons.
Does that sound injured to you?
