Chargers Sign Josh Reed

The Chargers have picked up Josh Reed, formerly of the Bills. Reed had a remarkable 10.1 +/- in 2008, but that figure fell to -1.7 in 2009.

I like the move -- Reed isn't a great player, but he's a good route-runner and intermediate receiver that should blend well with the Chargers' current group of big downfield targets. I don't buy the idea that he's Vincent Jackson insurance.

Strangely, that's almost exactly what I was thinking. I had no idea who Josh was but I was thinking Damn, J Reed is a pretty good kicker....

as a bills fan who has watched him play for eight years, i felt he was one of the better receivers on the roster. he's not a no. 2 guy, but out of the slot he's deadly because of his deceptive quickness and excellent route running. definitely not a deep thread, but an excellent short- and mid-range receiver.

this is an excellent acquisition by the chargers, IMO. his numbers aren't sexy, but then again we have the worst quarterbacks in the league throwing to him. it's not really his fault =)

+/-, what?

And if you meant DVOA the numbers don't match his player page.

+/-? Is this suddenly hockey now?

Negative +/- for a WR? Wow the Bills offense was bad.

To ruin the joke, +/- actually refers to this (part ii).

Like they say, he runs pretty good routes and he's not awful in the mid-range passing. More importantly, he's a great run-blocker.

i hope you are right about the run blocking. this could potentially be a monster rookie season for matthews and needs all the help he can get
