It's blocked for me but this AdamJT13 guy is amazing. He posts them every year and he's right every year. I wonder if he works for some NFL team or something?

Simple regression analysis and a bit of common sense derives the formula relatively easily.

OK well this guy put in the work and we didn't. I thank him for that.

OK, Temo, so what is the formula?

I'm glad someone has worked out how to do this, especially as it looks like extremely tedious work.

Wierdly, having read his (excellent) explanation of how the process works, I now have a vested interest in Rex Grossman being paid well for his one year deal in Washington, details of which I can't find. If Grossman qualifies, even as a seventh rounder (and he sure as hell isn't qualifying as anything else), that will be the pick cancelled out by the Wade Smith signing and the Texans will receive a 2011 3rd rounder (presumably) for Dunta Robinson. If not, the loss of Robinson will be cancelled out by the addition of Smith, and the Texans will receive, if anything, a 7th round "net value" pick. This all assumes, of course, that Chester Pitts resigns in Houston (fairly likely, but by no means a given) and that none of Chris Brown, Tutan Reyes, Ephraim Salaam, Chaun Thompson and Jeff Zgonina qualify (pretty likely), and that the Texans sign no further qualifying free agents (highly likely).

I've seen this many times over the years - I'm guessing its always been this guys work, either posted or copied. Great stuff. I just wish it was a bit more readable.

Like Chris pointed out, most of us here COULD to it. He actually put the time in, and I'm happy to benefit from it.

I wonder if anyone knows how the uncapped year will affect comp picks? I mean, if a team has to lose two guys before they can sign one then they would automatically qualify, but that can't be how the teams are going to work it, can it? Are those teams just goingg to be ineligible, or what?
