Cowboys Consistently Among League's Healthiest Teams

There's a very nice guest post at Blogging The Boys by "one.cool.customer", comparing our AGL metric to Rick Gosselin's injury research.

In other SBNation news, I'll be doing a chat at Bolts from the Blue tomorrow at 2:00, discussing the Chargers' offseason plans.

The two injury measures are correlated at r = 0.76 for the amount of injuries in a single season, and at r = 0.82 for the three-year average.

Bill doesn't care about correlations - just kneel to win baby.

Gosslein's chart that shows that half the teams that have won the superbowl have had significant injuries but if you disregard the patriots wins (I think they cheated, you may disagree) then the claim looks less substantial.

If you remove all the patriots wins, it's still 3/9.

However, looking at just 1 game like that is silly. Looking at both participants or all the teams in the conference champions ships would be a lot more useful.

Since AGL is based on games missed, is it possible that a team with solid backups is more likely to bench an injured starter than a team that is still better off playing the starter even if both his legs were amputated?

I also wonder if the 'A' in AGL is also skewing the numbers - after all, the top teams necessarily have more quality players, so even if their raw injury rates were the same, the Pats would have a higher AGL than the Lions.

AGL is based on the injury report which should account for that to a degree.

Dammit, I wish I had read this XP early enough to get in on that Bolt chat, Barnwell!
