After buying in bulk on defensive tackles during the draft, the Jaguars have released defensive tackle John Henderson.

The Falcons and Bucs are still lacking edge rushers, the Saints need someone to protect Drew Brees, and the Panthers desperately need a second good wideout.

Niners will pick him up.
Re: Jags Release John Henderson
Really? As a backup NT? Or as an out-of-position 3-4 DE? Seems a waste of Henderson, who has excelled in a 4-3 scheme in the past.
I understand that Henderson was perhaps overpaid for his contribution level, but, like Flozell Adams who was cut for similar reasons, it seems like he's still a pretty good player who could really upgrade some of the weaker DLs in the league, no? (I'm thinking of places like St. Louis and perhaps Atlanta)
Re: Jags Release John Henderson
Atlanta would seem like a strong possibility. There's some evidence that the Jacksonville defensive players really liked Mike Smith, as a number of them have moved to Atlanta after being released at least in part due to "attitude issues".
Re: Jags Release John Henderson
I wonder how well he got along with Gregg Williams when the two were in Jax, and whether he wants to play for Williams again...

Re: Jags Release John Henderson
I was just thinking that...
Re: Jags Release John Henderson
My thoughts exactly, woudl be great for the Saints to put him in situationally and knock Ellis around in practice.

Obligatory Youtube about John Henderson's pregame ritual, being slapped. I love his post-slap ranting - "We gon' make blood come out they mouth!"

Love the commentary at the end of the video:
Eisen: Marshall, have you ever seen a pregame ritual where one man asks another man to slap him hard across the face?
Faulk: I have not, Rich.
Re: Jags Release John Henderson
That is awesome. I have always thought this guy was fantastic but seeing that makes me really root for the guy. I would love the Bears to sign this guy.
Re: Jags Release John Henderson
It's like a real life Terry Tate. The pain-train's coming, woo-woo
Re: Jags Release John Henderson
Because saying good-bye to their last giant DT was so successful...
Re: Jags Release John Henderson
Seen him play. He does nothing special.
Re: Jags Release John Henderson
The Panthers can always use a decent DT.
Re: Jags Release John Henderson
Really, really dislike this call. Rookie D-linemen always seem to struggle in their first year. Henderson's best days are behind him, but I think this is one of those positions where a solid veteran can be really helpful while the new guys get acclimated.
