Joey Porter To Cardinals

The Cardinals have added Joey Porter on a three-year deal worth $17.5 million.

Fins didnt need Porter with how well Cameron Wake has been playing.

I don't understand why every NFL team isn't frontloading every contract they sign a player to this year... the contract can be almost cap free in years to come if they do that....

You still need real money to sign a player, not just cap space.

There is a chance if that cap comes back, it will adjust for teams trying to dodge it.

The cap might not come back.

For one thing, there's the 30% rule. Base salary can't be more than 30% more than it was the last year of the previous contract.

Sure, you can get around that with signing bonuses and such, but then you run the risk that if the cap comes back, those things will be prorated and count against the cap like they did pre-2010.

For the Dolphin fans: Do you folks think he has anything
left in the tank? I got the impression he lost playing time
due to lack of performance.

Hes done. He really didnt generate much pressure on his own this year. Most of his sacks were directly due to Starks blowing up the pocket or Cam Wake or another LB chasing the QB into Porter.

So, he cant rush like he used to and hes total garbage against the run and in coverage and hes a headache. The cards can take him.

I'd love to say this is a good signing...but we'll see if everybody plays nice on the defense. The defense will have to pull its weight now that Leinart is running the offense, so Porter's got to produce. Can't hurt to have a pass rush though...
