LenDale White Done in Seattle

Well, that was fast. Apparently, LenDale White was a really bad fit in Seattle, and the team is going to be cutting him. Not sure yet whether this has to do with running style or personality. The news isn't official yet, but it's pretty close to official -- as in, the team actually posted a "Seattle Seahawks announced they have released LenDale White" press release on their website, and then pulled it down.

EDIT: Actually, now it is official, and quotes from the team ("LenDale White was not ready to be a Seattle Seahawk") make it clear the issue was clearly personality, not scheme fit.

Why don't they understand that giving White carries = winning? It's such a simple formula.

Wait, so did his "personality" get way worse since he left USC? He was Pete Carroll's kid, after all-- and Carroll of all people didn't know him well enough and had to cut him in the span of a few weeks?

No, I'm pretty sure he just showed up to workouts fatter than ever, and that "slimming down to 220" business was all lies. I doubt it's a personality thing, unless "personality" involves tequila and Taco Bell.

That is shocking, considering that Pete Carroll obviously knew him quite well from their time together at USC. I wonder what the story behind the story is.

PFT reports White to be suspended for 4 games for violating league drug policy. (Though there was more to the release than that)

The best season I remember him having was the season in which he was fat. Maybe he was a nicer guy when he was drinking lots of tequila instead of worrying about his weight.

Also, I'm wondering if he will end up playing for my Redskins before all is said and done. After all, we were Shaun Alexander's last stop.

I actually wonder if his weight loss has made him even less effective. He wasn't exactly a multi-dimensional back.

i was curious too then i looked up his stats and saw he's only averaged 4 ypc once... maybe it was all line and he was never very good at all? or did all those 1 yd TDs he stole from CJ two years ago drop his avg?

That's why I said "even less" effective. I think he was always below-average, but it seemed that his one "skill" really was being so big that smaller players couldn't tackle him.

And the original poster could be right, too. It could be that it turns out when LenDale isn't drinking he's no fun.

yeah he never really blew me away either it's just kind of amazing how fast it went from "smash and dash" to "dash and cut".

He had a decent 8.7% DVOA in 2008, but that was sandwiched between his 1,000+ yard 2007 campaign at -6.5% DVOA, and then his essentially average 2009 (-.3% DVOA).

pft is reporting that he was cut cause he was out of shape... safe to assume he violated the substance abuse policy, not PEDs?

If you're trying to cut weight, diuretics would be a way, and those are against league policy as a masking agent.

If that were the case, then I'm sure that he would have stayed on the team. If he's on non-performance enhancing drugs, then the team may not want that for various reasons.

Local Q13 news reported last night that:

1) He may or may not have missed a 9am meeting the day before he was cut.

2) He WAS seen drinking in downtown Seattle the night before the meeting (his drink of choice was unknown)

3) He WAS seen drinking TEQUILA the week before.

So much for his master diet plan.

Actually, I found drinking tequila to be a pretty good diet plan. I frequently had an empty stomach the next morning.
