MMQB: Who Dat, Indeed

In this week's MMQB, PK reveals how an "ambush" made heroes out of a couple of no-names, insists that Drew Brees is now in the Pantheon (once again, we're going to go ahead and insist that he already was there), and reviews the Hall of Fame selection process. A humble suggestion for next season, sir: Stop complaining about your travels. Really.

Why are all them commentators making such a big deal about the Garcon drop? Did no one see Colston let one bounce off his helmet on third down early in the game?

..Manning's only ring came against the Sex Cannon and we're talking best ever? just sayin. Montana never threw a pick in the big game.

PK is rather short-sighted. The Saints were one game away from playing these same Colts in the Super Bowl, losing to Sex Cannon's Bears in Payton's first year as a head coach. We saw glimpses back then of what New Orleans was building, then they got lost in mediocrity for two seasons before this year's Super Run.

Meanwhile, CBS couldn't even get a zoom shot of Kim Kardashian laying one on Reggie Bush after the game...someone needs to get fired.

Why would you WANT to see her? Even money says she's a tranny.

You know she has a sex video out, right?

Noah of Arcadia: "Even the great Montana came within an easy dropped interception of becoming the goat in the last 2 minutes of the 2nd Bengals SB."

Aaron Schatz: "Montana also threw a pick to end the 1983 NFC Championship game, with the 49ers losing by three. It happens. Even to the best."

"Sean Payton (center) had confidence that Thomas Morstead (6) and the Saints special teams could execute an onsides kick."

This is the blurb underneath the first photo. Can somebody please tell me why so many people say 'onsides' rather than 'onside' kick? Announcers do this as well, and its always sort of confused me.

"This game puts [Brees] in a league with Manning and Tom Brady at the top of the league's quarterback pecking order."

PK is such a jackass. Brees has been a killer for years: the difference this season was having a defence that gave him a chance.

As a Hoosier I am feeling very sad today, but even I can admit that Brees is Manning's equal not just right now, but over the last three seasons. Maybe Peter needs another Hazelnut Double-shot Latte to get his head straight.

Well PK is just in the same silly boat as a lot of other people who puts enormous stock in QB Super Bowl performance, counting regular season and other playoff games less. See comment #1 above.

I have been the all-time Manning defender, for the past 8 years, but last night...he blew it. Hit Porter right in the chest, then threw another pick to Greer, who happened to be out of bounds. So disappointing.

Manning's been throwing that pick all his life. Someone else has mentioned the pick by Ty Law in '06. Hot route on a big blitz, there aren't that many options. It's just Porter guessed right and the Colts guessed wrong that time. If Wayne had gone for a sluggo he's getting six. Perhaps Manning got lazy on his audible playcall. Kudos at least to Gregg W. for getting him into the situation.

Indeed. My first thought after seeing the replay was, "Wow, Porter gambled and guessed right. If that's a sluggo, Simms is wetting his Dockers while screaming, 'How did Reggie Wayne get so wide open?'" Porter gambled, his guess was right, and now he's the Larry Brown of 2010.

In what world are diffidently and cavalierly synonyms? "Payton said cavalierly, almost diffidently" PK needs to turn on the thesaurus on his computer.

This a professional scribbler who writes, when attempting to convey a positive impression of a speech he heard, that a apeaker was uttering trueisms.

Technically, Brees is probably the best quarterback in the whole league.

As others said, he just never had even a remotely decent defense on his side. Brady, for instance, had the benefit of playing alongside elite Belichick defenses all those years.

ELITE BELICHICK DEFENSES my *&&. You mean elite Belicick cheaters
with cameras taping the opposing teams signals. They should have lost
their SB rings for that scam.

Some might consider the Patriots' achievements tainted by the Spygate scandal in which the NFL punished them for recording opposing coaches' signals. But Cowher dismissed that as a relative non-factor:

"Listen, there's people stealing signals all the time before that. You have ways to hide those things. We had wristbands for our defense. I remember trying to get offensive plays and see what the formations were. Everybody knows.

"You're trying to gain a competitive edge. Did that go beyond it? To a degree. Do I think that helped them win football games? No. You still have to go out and play the game. I still have a hard time believing that was a difference in a game."

What I find unfortunate in this particular MMQB column is what appears to be King's acknowledgment of a stun-level stupid "column" written by one JW Nix about the HoF's snubbing of Don Coryell and Ray Guy. Nix's "column" strikes me as an unusually pathetic and shabby piece of thinking, among other things squawking about Ray Guy's not being in the HoF (debatable either way) while calling him the greatest punter in the history of football (Sammy Baugh and Tommy Davis and Jerrell Wilson say hello, JW), saying the non-election of Don Coryell was a sign of disregard and disrespect (can't see any argument for this), decrying Rickey Jackson's election while referring to him as a one-dimensional pass rusher (simply not true), and claiming that there are countless HoF voters who don't even know what positions many gridiron legends played (say what?). What King has to say is fortunately not flattering if a bit obliquely stated, but King really shouldn't even give someone like this the time of day -- it only encourages morons like this.

I've consistently found the "columnists" over at this site (Bleacher Report) to be populated by self-important amateur sportswriter wannabes who need to get a serious clue about the subjects they spout off about. Interestingly enough, if you read the comments below his "column," JW and at least one other poster there seem to think King was giving a shout out praising JW in his MMQB column. Funny stuff, really.
