That's more years than he gains yards per carry last year.

Shanny should have stuck to cellphone booth salesmen.

Give press conferences in drag and talk shit about Jason Campbell?

Johnson did fine in Cincy last year (yes, I know his production was awful in KC). I'm not saying he's about to turn back the clock to 2005, but I wouldn't be at all surprised if he could give you 100 useful carries a season for a couple more years. As long as he's not getting paid too much, there's nothing much wrong with this signing. He's not 2008 Shaun Alexander yet.

I don't see what LJ offers at this point that a rookie or undrafted free agent can do for less, except sell jerseys.

Attract controversy and create dissension in the locker room with his massive ego and unstoppable mouth?

You can find a rookie to do that too... with more upside potential -- on and off the field ;).

Raiders just had bad spell. happens to all temas. nothgin to worry about. team on upswing. win vs Syeelers just tip of iceberg. Good tims ahead. j Russell comign into 4th seaosn. Either get it now but if not Raiders go with other Qb (either Gradkowski or draft pick) both greta anywya, so tema going to be fine at qb psoiiton. wr corpse good, TE great. defense getting fixed but secondary alreayd great. Kicking game=aweosme.
Cocahing - great.

The fact that you use the term 'bad spell' to describe the Raiders right now is beyond awesome. However, Al Davis = bat-sh*t crazy. God bless Raiderjoe.

I especially like the bit about the WR corpse. Boy is THAT accurate.

Zombie football - now that's a marketable alternate league.

Great. The last thing I want is that homophobic asshole playing for my team.

Sigh.

90 per cent of the league are homophobic, with varying levels of assholery

Um... Your team's name is a racial slur. I think the two go together quite nicely.

As a Redskins fan, what the? Report is $3.5m base!

So now we have two useless, overpaid runners who can't catch the ball and are known for poor attitude and poor work ethic?

19
by Guido Albert Merkens (not verified) :: Sat, 03/13/2010 - 2:07pm

3 years - 3.5M. base.

not over paid, but an uninspiring signing nonetheless.

as a 'Skins fan living in Tampa Bay, watch Allen up close, I'd say get ready for more uninspiring signings.

Actually - having Portis and Johnson in an uncapped year doesn't sound too bad to me. Let them grind out yards while the new line comes together. An unsung freshman RB probably won't be able to do much behind a raw line.

I'd take the same approach with QB. Let Campbell or some FA vet play behind the line this year, don't expose a rookie QB to it, even if you draft one first day.

by Anonymisses (not verified) :: Sat, 03/13/2010 - 4:26pm

good god, why would they do this?

23
by Guido Albert Merkens (not verified) :: Sat, 03/13/2010 - 6:33pm

because, Allen is totally over-rated a GM and talent evaluator? that would be my take.

24
by ChicagoRaider :: Sat, 03/13/2010 - 6:38pm

KC Joyner did analysis of three aging RB and concluded that each of them had some value. http://insider.espn.go.com/nfl/insider/news/story?id=4984751

He did not publish an analysis of Larry Johnson. Do you honestly think he did not look at Larry Johnson? I don't.

Bad play by the Redskins.

As a Skins fan, this makes no sense to me. 3 years? Why?

27
by Dice :: Sun, 03/14/2010 - 12:02am

Make the numbers look better?

Dan Snyder is still trying to build a fantasy football team with yester years pro bowlers? How'd that work out in the past?

I don't like the idea of having Portis/Johnson in the same locker room behind what should be a below average offensive line again.

Clinton Portis running off to the media and spitting out dirty laundry on the radio really isn't good for the team, and it wouldn't shock me at all of these to won't get along.

Not to mention both aren't 1/2 as good as they think they are. Maybe the Redskins want to get rid of Portis ( next year), and want to have a big name backup waiting in the wings?

So how long before Portis talks trash about Johnson, or Johnson talks trash about Portis on the radio, TV, or on Twitter?
