"Mr. Bush? There's a Eugene Robinson on the phone for you. He apparently has some advice on what not to do during Super Bowl week."

I understand that you're making a joke, but the two situations are completely different, the main difference (in my mind) being that Robinson was out the night before the game, not the night before Media Day.

And, of course, Robinson was arrested for offering an undercover cop $40 for a blow-job; all we can say for sure about Bush is that he was not in bed at 3:30 AM --- which isn't even a violation of his team rules, much less an actual crime. But, for the record, I wouldn't have even cared if Bush was caught soliciting. The reason people made such a big deal out of Robinson's arrest is that he was married with kids and was a proselytizing, Atheletes-in-Action, look-at-me Christian. Whereas Bush is kicking it to Kim Kardashian, 'nuff said.

Best part of Super Bowl will be the 1 million shots of KimmyK Superstar in the loge, worst part is they won't be showing her booty (or anything being put in said round mound of love)

But on the partying???!?!?! does anyone really care that football players are out drinking? That is what they do before they die 20-25 years before all of us. They live hard and die ealry

Eugene Robinson also won man of the year (maybe the Wlter Payton award) for being the best dude in the NFL off the field that year. Irony ensued

robinson didnt win man of year award aka walter Payton award. what he won was alesser known citizienship award of some kind.
Bart Starrr award maybe? that souns aboudbt right. think named after starr

Raiderjoe is correct, as usual. Robinson won the Bart Starr Award --- which is given by Atheletes In Action to "an NFL player who best exemplifies outstanding character and leadership in the home, on the field and in the community." That was part of what I was alluding to in my snarky reference to AIA.

Nonstory. Must be a slow news day. I'm surprised FO would even waste their time tagging this as an XP.

If this were Friday or Saturday, maybe it'd be minor news.

But a backup running back chose to enjoy some nightlife a week before a game? Nothing to see here.

by The Ninjalectual :: Wed, 02/03/2010 - 4:45pm

Perhaps the point isn't that this is NEWS, as much as an opportunity for us to make some funny jokes here in the comments threads. I say thanks, Bill and FO!

Soon, my son (or daughter), you will come to realize that anything can be posted as an FO XP.

Oh, no! How will he ever get ready for the game in time?

The more I think about it, the more this kind of makes sense.
If the Colts stay secluded in their hotel rooms and practice compound all week, watching game films and rehearsing blocking schemes, while the Saints party all week and crawl up the tunnel Sunday on their hands and knees with Tequila breath and bloodshot eyes, we can be assured that both teams are bringing their A-game.
Colts will be Colts, and Saints will be Saints.

Laissez Les Bon Temps Roulez, boys! And Peyton, let's see another hundred snaps before lunch.

28
by Bobman :: Wed, 02/03/2010 - 6:11pm

Exactly.

The only problem for me would be if the Saints' partying somehow disrupted the Manning-Garcon 3 am film study session, making it run overtime into the Manning-Clark 4 am session, and truncating the Manning-Raymond Berry session slated for 6 am. (Roger Carr and Billy Brooks are still waiting in the hotel/bunker lobby for a slot to open up.)

Then it would confer an unfair advantage on the Saints.

by Paul R :: Thu, 02/04/2010 - 10:19am

You must not have gotten the September 18th memo titled, "Contingency Plan #4C: Manning-Garcon 3AM Film Study Disruption, Alternative Schedule."

Meanwhile, in the Saints huddle:
"Ummmm...okay, everybody go long. Jeremy, *burp* go in motion, or run around or something. Make it look good. On three."

Result: Touchdown.

I think it Colts will be Saints and Saints will be partying like its Mardi Gras (also known as Sinners by some, but fortunately not all).

His grim expression in TMZ's photograph made me laugh.

14
by Sophandros :: Wed, 02/03/2010 - 1:03pm

1) It was from Monday night. You know, the day prior to ***gasp*** media day.

2) No one had a curfew on that night, and not surprisingly, no one seemed worse for the wear on media day.

3) Hardly any surprise that TMZ focused only on Bush and no other players.

4) Hardly any surprise that Barnwell, a well known Bush hater, jumped at the opportunity to post this as an extra point. Why didn't you repeat your Reggie Bush DYAR bet this season, Barnwell?

Football Outsiders is much, much better than this. You know it, I know it, and other readers know it. You should be ashamed of yourself for linking to TMZ in the first place, let alone linking to TMZ for a NON-STORY.

At his age, I could work all day, drink all night, get an hour or two of sleep and do it again. Reggie is a grown man, and if he wanted a drink, let the man drink.

Dude doesn't drink much, if at all, when he's out in NOLA...

Not that anyone said this here, but I love how when photographs are sometimes interpreted as someone looking worse for wear or "blitzed", etc. (The Eli Manning one comes to mind with the beer in his hand). People do realize that sometimes pictures catch people blinking, or yawning, or whatever right? And this sometimes makes them seem "out of it", when they really aren't.

18
by Signor Sack (not verified) :: Wed, 02/03/2010 - 2:01pm

Forgot to add -- I know Eli had a beer in his hand in that picture, but to me it still looks like he was caught mid blink. I am well aware of that look, it seems every picture ever taken of me I am caught blinking. :-)

Great point--plus, tell somebody some pictures are from a party, and they're going to read the subjects' body language differently from if you tell them they're from a wake.

by Bobman :: Wed, 02/03/2010 - 6:14pm

True, but how do you explain candids of Ben Roethlisberger? It seems that every photo out of uniform makes him look like he just ate 17 pizzas or downed a keg. What's he doing in his spare time, working on a biography of Babe Ruth? I guess everybody's gotta have a role model.

Last week SI had a story on snow/skateboarder Shaun White (the Flying Tomato). He went down to the lodge restaurant and a woman kept trying to get him to hold her drink while a guy waited, poised to take a photo. White left and said just what you said - they'll take 100 photos and print the one where you look ridiculous because you were laughing, or rolling your eyes, or sneezing, with the caption "WASTED AGAIN!"

It's kind of the same deal with Roethlisberger except there they wait and wait for the one photo where he looks sober.

Not better than Ryan Leaf.

31
by Bobman :: Wed, 02/03/2010 - 6:16pm

Hmmmm, Bush... Leaf... a shame Deion Branch wasn't a #2 overall pick back in the day. There's something going on here and I intend to get to the root of it.

43
by Purds :: Wed, 02/03/2010 - 10:32pm

Well, I think you might be able to get Cory Ivy out of semi-retirement to help you with that investigation, though I wouldn't really scratch more than the surface with him. Oh, and hedge your bets if you invite Michael Crabtree, as he's often late.

36
by Mr Shush :: Wed, 02/03/2010 - 8:53pm

At least Leaf was taken after Manning was already gone. Matt Millen's selection of Charles Rogers at #2 with Andre Johnson still available has to rank as the finest moment in the breathtaking career of the modern game's most celebrated personnel man.
