Steelers Sign Will Allen

Adam Schefter reports that the Steelers have added safety Will Allen, formerly of the Buccaneers.

Schefter suggests that Allen is a replacement for Ryan Clark, but I disagree; Allen's a special teams guy and a backup safety at best. He was playing behind the miserable Sabby Piscitelli last year when he was healthy.

Whenever I see his name in print, I immediately think of regular FO commenter Will Allen. The same thing happened with the Giants' Will Allen years ago. We are awash in Will Allens.

I'm pretty sure they ARE actually all the same guy. Being multiple people in multiple places is only one of The Mighty Will Allen's god-given powers.

You mean like Chuck Norris?

Then why didn't Will Allen, the 1st round pick from Syracuse University sign with the Minnesota Vikings?

How come there is no story about Big Ben Roethlisburger? Seems like he might have been out late this weekend assaulting college girls in Georgia? Do I sense a trend here?

I think Ben has done some dumb things in his day and he gets this frat boy pass. You know for darn sure that if Roddy White or somebody on the Falcons had this happen to them they wouldn't be getting a free pass but Ben just has this goofball look/act to him and he's getting a pass.

You guessed it. The whole world is out to persecute the Falcons.

I've been wondering why there isn't a Big Ben XP, to tell you the truth...

I feel like off-field news only gets posted when a suspension has been announced, or at least there's something more concrete to report on than accusations.

I could be wrong, though.

There's a joke in there with football players getting passes, but I can only come up with Heyward Bay dropping it.

Will Allen used to be on the Giants, was decent in coverage but had some of the worst hand you'll ever see. We are talking Carolos Rodgers bad hands. The Giants got rid of him and brought in Sam Madison who did well for a few years but burned out.

Allen looked like he was better in Miami for some reason, but anybody who is a backup to Sabby Piscatelli is pretty freaking washed up. Sabby takes bad angles, is horrible in run support and not even average in coverage. If there was anybody halfway decent behind him they would have benched him on such a crappy team. The comparisons to John Lynch are comical, Sabby is a joke.

Sabby isn't a joke, he's not funny at all. The only two option as to why he would be starting over Will Allen would be (A) Will Allen has pictures of Raheem Morris naked with farm animals, or (B) Will Allen is utterly stinking terrible.

I'm going with "B", but not ruling out "A".

The Will Allen who was better in Miami is still in Miami, and for a reason. This is yet another Will Allen.

I'm really glad you said this, because for a second I thought I was getting my Will Allens confused.

Wait, Chris is right after all. According to PFR, Will Allen of the Miami Will Allens was formerly of the New York Will Allens, while Will Allen of the Tampa Bay Will Allens is the new Will Allen of Pittsburgh.

Will Allen, or won't he?

Will Allen's claim to fame (or infamy) was being the tackler who shredded Willis McGahee's knee in the 2003 Fiesta Bowl.

Now that Ryan Clark's re-signed, (the other other) Will Allen will most likely fill Tyrone Carter's roster spot.

This is a *good thing*, as Carter looked past his expiration date last year, and the Steelers need help on special teams coverage. They've actually made a pretty solid effort in that direction, resigning 1 LB who will never see the regular field but was decent on ST, and bringing in yet another Canadian special teams ace.
