Re: Tarvaris Jackson to IR
I know that starting Sidney Rice is pretty much out of the question, but what about starting Webb if you can as a WR? I have pretty crappy WRs as it is, and in the Yahoo! leagues he's available as both a QB and a WR. I think he could actually provide some good upside, since he's likely to have about 100 yards passing, and probably some yardage as a runner (being a running QB in college and all), and probably a TD, most likely as a runner.
I'm just wondering if it's worth taking a flier on in the playoffs on a player that could do some damage on the ground, and anything in the air would be a bonus.
Re: Tarvaris Jackson to IR
Verrrry eenteresting. I suppose it depends on how deep your league is and how good your WRs are. Keep in mind that Webb is very likely among the worst QBs in the NFL, and is playing behind a line that struggles to pass block and against a good defense. He'll probably be outscored by the top 20-30 WRs at least unless he's some kind of Kurt Warner.
Yahoo really needs to get better at their positional designations. There was the travesty a few years ago when they listed a rookie Marques Colston as a WR/TE, allowing teams to start an average-to-good WR as the top TE in the league. This year Danny Woodhead is a RB/WR even though no one thought he would ever be a WR, and now this Joe Webb thing.
In any case, I'm very happy to have the Bears' D on my roster this week.
Re: Tarvaris Jackson to IR
You know, the irony of this situation is that Woodhead is actually a starting WR for the team I'm talking about. I'm not too sold on Hines Ward right now, especially considering how he's done absolutely nothing for me the past few weeks, and now he's going up against Revis (although I have read in a few places that Revis will probably play quite a bit across from Wallace, as he's the real deep threat). I know the Jets have a good run defense, which means that the Steelers are going to have to pass to win the game, but it will be cold, probably bad weather, and like I said, Ward has just been killing me the past few weeks.
No sooner did I post my question that I looked on RotoWorld and saw the article that basically describes my situation, saying that Webb on a very conservative projection would probably gain about 14 points before turnovers as a WR. Well, technically he would gain the same as a QB, but I have Rivers, and I don't think I want to take him out right now. I have Webb on the roster, but I'm hesitant to play him, as its playoffs, and have no idea whats going on.
Of course, Ramsey could be declared the starter tomorrow and that would make all this moot.
BTW, I also have Chicago's Defense on my roster, and even with all the developments, Yahoo! has yet to really make their projection very good. Actually, they were projecting the Vikings D to outscore the Bears D for quite a bit until this afternoon.

FWIW:
http://www.steelerslounge.com/2010/12/talking-jetssteelers-thejetsblogco...
"Based on the type deep speed that Wallace has I’d actually think — and call me crazy — that Antonio Cromartie will probably see the majority of snaps and the reason I say that is because Cromartie played Brandon Marshall very well, and he played Randy Moss very well during the second half of the first Pats-Jets game.
What Antonio Cromartie does well — he doesn’t do a lot of things well — but what he does do well … he’s not physical but he’s speedy and he’s tall. So he’s great against guys that are fast and guys that go deep, but he’s not Darrelle Revis physical. He can’t take on Calvin Johnson or Andre Johnson, so generally, however the more physical receiver is, they give that guy to Revis. Like Terrell Owens instead of Chad Ochocinco a few weeks ago. Not that Revis couldn’t cover a guy like Mike Wallace — I think he could — but I really think Cromartie will really see the majority of the snaps."
Re: Tarvaris Jackson to IR
See, I know I don't pay attention to the AFC East, but I had it in my mind that Cromartie was a physical corner, a tall, physical corner. Not really all that fast. Which made him more of a perfect matchup for Ward. If I go by this, then Ward will definitely be covered by Revis, which only makes me want to start Webb more.
Re: Tarvaris Jackson to IR
Marques Colston was not an "average-to-good WR," he was the top fantasy scoring WR in the league that year (under default scoring settings).
Re: Tarvaris Jackson to IR
The streak ends at 1!
Re: Tarvaris Jackson to IR
Oh no, the season is now lost.
Re: Tarvaris Jackson to IR
Joe Webb is nursing a strained hamstring which we tweaked when they sent him in as a kick returner.
The Vikings also signed Patrick Ramsey, and Favre is still technically available if he can hold a ball and his hand isn't grape-colored.
It is anyone's guess as to which of these starts, though I'm guessing Webb has the best chance.
The field hijinks are also making for good drama, meaning whoever starts might get knocked out easily if rumors are true on the condition of the artificual turf which lacks heating coils to keep it from freezing like most other outdoor northern NFL stadiums. Skeptical fans have pointed out that the old Met never had heating coils, they instead drove this flamethrower thing up and down the field to try and thaw it out. Plans to do this were cut short when they remembered it was artificial turf, not grass under there.
Re: Tarvaris Jackson to IR
"the artificual turf which lacks heating coils to keep it from freezing like most other outdoor northern NFL stadiums"
Minnesota cheap.
Re: Tarvaris Jackson to IR
Yeah! If most northern NFL stadiums have it, why doesn't the NCAA stadium in Minnesota have it?
Re: Tarvaris Jackson to IR
That should probably have some kind of smiley emotion to indicate I'm not very serious, but I'm from Minnesota, and we don't do emotion.
Re: Tarvaris Jackson to IR
Because they never expected a game to ever be played there past Thanksgiving.
Re: Tarvaris Jackson to IR
I actually admire the utilitarian nature of the Metrodome. Even if they build Wilf a new one I think it should be along those lines, not the fancy extravagance he is expecting.
Re: Tarvaris Jackson to IR
He'd never accept it, and would simply move the team to a city with a better facility. The whole point of a new stadium is to generate much larger revenues, which a utilitarian facility cannot do.
I've come to conclude that I'd rather see the team move than see many hundreds of millions handed out to an NFL team, but since they would be moving because someone would be giving them many hundred of millions, and I don't pay much in taxes in Minnesota any longer, I guess I have little stake in the matter. I still think of Minneapolis as home, however, so it just rubs me the wrong way somehow. I'd rather see them move.
I gotta say, though, that The Metrodome is a really, really, really, hideous place to see a sporting event. Everything about the place, in terms of providing viewing pleasure, sucks.
Re: Tarvaris Jackson to IR
I went there for the first time last year (moved to the area recently), and it felt like I was in a prison, not a sporting arena.
Re: Tarvaris Jackson to IR
If the Metrodome is a prison, what is my city's stadium, Canad inns? My only memory from my few trips to the Metrodome is "Winnipeg needs a Palace like this." That and up close the screen was awful.

Re: Tarvaris Jackson to IR
Somebody have Spurgeon Wynn's phone number?
Re: Tarvaris Jackson to IR
Henry Burris, there is a call on the white courtesy phone, Henry Burris, white courtesy phone.
Re: Tarvaris Jackson to IR
Spergon Wynn probably goes down as the worst QB in vikings history.
He finished with one touchdown and seven interceptions.
Quick - trivia: Who caught the lone touchdown he threw?
Re: Tarvaris Jackson to IR
The Immortal Byron Chamberlain in what was a career season
Re: Tarvaris Jackson to IR
Jeff George is waiting by the phone.
Re: Tarvaris Jackson to IR
What the Vikings need is a guy who's proven he can step in and start well into the season. Maybe Jared Allen, Ryan Longwell, and Steve Hutchinson can fly to Vinny Testaverde's house and convince him to come out of retirement.
Re: Tarvaris Jackson to IR
Since I have tickets to the game, I would love this.
Re: Tarvaris Jackson to IR
You said win. The Panthers would like to show you that's not really possible.
Why not go find Jeff Garcia?
Re: Tarvaris Jackson to IR
I clearly said start, though now that you mentioned it, I actually think Garcia would be a good idea, all things considered. Whatever system you run goes out the window with him under center anyways, so him not knowing the offense isn't really a problem.
Re: Tarvaris Jackson to IR
Have you watched the UFL lately?
It's easy in Madden to find the best free agent. For the vikings? I have no idea.
Re: Tarvaris Jackson to IR
I think by the point you get to December you can pretty safely assume the Quality Free Agent cupboard is bare. If they were good to begin with, they'd probably be on somebody's roster by now. It's pretty much a matter of finding a semi-warm body that could conceivably throw a football for the Vikings.
Re: Tarvaris Jackson to IR
Do they even have to throw a football? Whoever takes snaps, their job description could conceivably be "hand off to Adrian Peterson until one of you is dead."
Re: Tarvaris Jackson to IR
Can Adrian Peterson run the Minnesota-cat?
Re: Tarvaris Jackson to IR
That's what they told Jackson, and he still managed to screw it up, colliding with Peterson.
Re: Tarvaris Jackson to IR
Not that I really would because I unfortunately don't even have time to watch football anymore, but is it actually possible to watch the UFL? I have basic cable, so I do get a few channels, but not NFLN (I know that the UFL isn't played on there) or any other really special channel.
I suggested Garcia because I was under the impression that he had some success with the Eagles when Childress was still there, and while Childress is gone from Minnesota, his system is technically still there, and a lot of his assistants are still there, which he undoubtedly brought a few with him from Philadelphia.
Re: Tarvaris Jackson to IR
You can watch UFL games on Versus. Which usually requires you paying for the sports tier with your cable provider.
Re: Tarvaris Jackson to IR
Yeah... about that... I'm sorry but I don't even have NFLNetwork, or even DVR, so if I don't have time to watch NFL games, I'm not so sure I'm going to even try to take the time to watch UFL games, let alone buy their channel.
Isn't Versus also the network that got all the hockey games?
Re: Tarvaris Jackson to IR
I think so, I don't really watch hockey. I was just informing you it was possible to watch the UFL if you want. Also, if you wanted NFL Network, you would probably have to get the sports tier which comes with Versus, and FSC, and about 10 ESPNs.
Re: Tarvaris Jackson to IR
All games are available online from the UFL website. Click my name for the link.
Re: Tarvaris Jackson to IR
Gee, if only Brad hadn't traded Sage Rosenfels....
Re: Tarvaris Jackson to IR
Yeah, wow, I didn't understand that at all. I was shocked that my G-Men were able to upgrade at backup so well after Sorgi went down in preseason (IIRC, they were down to Rhett Bomar as their #2). It didn't make any sense to me--I mean, Favre can be presumed to be retiring after this year (insert joke here), and all you have is Tarvaris for next year. I'd figure that at least you'd keep Rosenfels around in case TJ falls flat on his face in 2011 (unimaginable, I know). Oh, well, it's not like they have anything to play for in these two weeks anyway.
Re: Tarvaris Jackson to IR
I'm genuinely afraid for Cutler now. All the signs point to him not making it out of this game in one piece: 3/4 NFC North QB's injured, crappy O-line with the highest sack rate in the league, and a playing surface that's closer to glass than turf.
Re: Tarvaris Jackson to IR
Since the Vikings are having their 50th anniversery celebtation this weekend (who says God does not exist?), I really wish Leslie Frazier would channel Bud Grant on Monday night, and ban sideline heaters, while the players channel Alan Page, and go without gloves and long sleeves.
Re: Tarvaris Jackson to IR
Three-fourths of the starters plus half of the backups (with Jackson on IR and Shaun Hill unlikely to play for Detroit this weekend).
Hey, anyone up for extending the season? I don't see any possible problems with that. /s
Re: Tarvaris Jackson to IR
Patrick Ramsey is the #3 QB; his third team this year.
Re: Tarvaris Jackson to IR
2010 vikings is disaster . If fan if that team you ptobably eaiting for twuvs srason to start again
Re: Tarvaris Jackson to IR
I'm assuming you meant Twins, not T-Wolves. T-Wolves have already started, and while they're losing a lot, they're at least looking halfway competitive for stretches of games.
Re: Tarvaris Jackson to IR
Kevin Love is awesome and Coach K should have played him more in the world championship. That is all.
Re: Tarvaris Jackson to IR
Meant Twins but hit some worng keys.
