The Worst Jersey Ever Created

Our friend Jamie Mottram notes that there's an NFL jersey foul in an entry on Kevin Kaduk's Big League Stew blog today.

He was not joking. It's the ugliest jersey I've ever seen.

That's not even close to the day-glo green Seahawks uni from last season.

Those garish jerseys are pretty popular in Seattle, especially among kids. At a junior football event last weekend, out of about 100 kids (mostly wearing their own junior team jerseys from last year), a handful had on the greenies, about as many as wore more traditional Seahawks blue.

The Favrenstein jersey is pretty gross, but I'm still partial to the Oregon Ducks as being the worst.

by Kevin from Philly :: Tue, 03/16/2010 - 4:34pm

The Favre jersey is not ugly, it's just dumb. The Ducks jersey IS pretty ugly, but since no one east of Idaho ever sees them on TV, they're not nearly as offensive as the Seahawks.

by tuluse :: Tue, 03/16/2010 - 8:42pm

I have to go with these because not only are they ugly but they are actively trying to burn your eyes out.

46
by Theo :: Tue, 03/16/2010 - 8:47pm

They actually have an idea and a design to them.
I can't decide weather this is good or bad.
Fuck you, offseason. Fuck you hard. So hard.

by Theo :: Tue, 03/16/2010 - 11:30am

You can buy 4 different jerseys, but you can also save the hussle and wear this one 4 days in a row.

by Hurt Bones :: Tue, 03/16/2010 - 11:39am

More like a 12 pack than a 4 pack IMO.

Or, as they like to call it in Wisconsin - the half rack.

It's still better than the Titans' jerseys.

by Neoplatonist Bolthead (not verified) :: Wed, 03/17/2010 - 2:14am

See, I think the Titans have the coolest regular jersey AND the second-coolest alternate in the NFL.

5
by BucNasty :: Tue, 03/16/2010 - 11:57am

Can you really get worse than those Eagles throwbacks?

8
by TomKelso :: Tue, 03/16/2010 - 12:34pm

Oh yes - the Bears or Steelers throw-ups, er, throwbacks, were even worse than the Eagles.

But this thing is approaching Orlando Thunder (World League) levels of bad.

11
by Jimmy :: Tue, 03/16/2010 - 1:13pm

If you mean the orange things the Bears wear then I get what you mean but I am not sure they are really throwbacks. (I quite like them but I am colour blind). If you mean the throwback jerseys the Bears wore mid nineties, I thought they were cool. Navy with three orange, vertical stripes on, very nice and retro looking.

13
by Phil :: Tue, 03/16/2010 - 1:19pm

Of course it's subjective ... but there's no way the Steeler throwback jerseys were worse than those Eagle throwbacks. There's just no way. If anything was Orlando Thunder bad, it was these Eagles jerseys:

The brown Broncos throwbacks from the 60s are horrific.

I used to love the throwbacks, but then they went and overdid it. I'd be perfectly happy if they stopped for a few seasons or at least limited it to one-week.

by Neoplatonist Bolthead (not verified) :: Wed, 03/17/2010 - 2:16am

No way, man. Or at least make an exception for the Chargers.

52
by Eddo :: Wed, 03/17/2010 - 10:57am

And the Raiders'. They were subtly different (more silver on the numbers, less bold helmet logo), but a bit better than the current version.

I also think the Broncos' brown helmets were pretty cool, but the mustard-yellow jerseys and vertically-striped socks were bad. Put brown (or white) jerseys and regular-looking socks, and it wouldn't be a terrible throwback.

The Patriots' and Oilers' throwbacks were also better than their current uniforms, in my opinion. Ditto for the Rams (blue and yellow trumps navy and gold, and the blue and white really old ones are even better).

Of course, my favorite uniforms across the entire league are from teams that don't really have throwbacks, since they've always worn the same thing: the Bears, Packers, Cowboys, and Colts probably have the best overall uniforms in the league.

by tuluse :: Wed, 03/17/2010 - 8:26pm

I think the 49ers have really good looking throwbacks.

The Bills throwbacks are good too.

Yeah that is an abomination. I am not sure how you would get a shirt worse than that.

Oh, come on. Half a blue polo shirt sewed to an old Houston Astro's shirt is the worst you've ever seen? It's not THAT bad.

I can't bear to imagine seeing 10 of these on the same field.

"Washington Redskins current uniforms"

Admit it, you're including them only because Jason Campbell happens to wear one

31
by BadgerDave :: Tue, 03/16/2010 - 6:44pm

The best part of the Throwback jerseys are that they go away though! Makes us appreciate what we've got now!!!

37
by C (not verified) :: Tue, 03/16/2010 - 7:45pm

Rk

I will admit that I hate everything about the Washington Redskins.
I dislike their owner
I dislike their stadium
I dislike their uniforms
I dislike most the media covering the team
I dislike most of their players
I dislike most of their bandwagon fans

There have been a few Redskins players that being a true football fan made me like and respect. Art Monk, Darrell Green, Bryan Mitchell, and Lavar Arrington come to mind.

Jason Campbell, Clinton Portis and the current batch of idiots they have are a joke. I like Mike Shannahan and wouldn't wish ill against him but the least he could do is take out the trash.

22
by Kevin from Philly :: Tue, 03/16/2010 - 4:27pm

Oh jeez, how did I forget the creamsicles? Good call on those, C.

27
by HostileGospel :: Tue, 03/16/2010 - 6:09pm

Mid 90's Jets? What was ugly about those, exactly? I like them quite a bit better than the current ones (mostly because kelly green is preferable to forest green), and a hell of a lot more than their asstastic "NY Titans" throwbacks. Navy and mustard, ugh.

I also like the creamsicle, but I understand that I'm in the minority on that one. It's best as a throwback, of course; I don't think TB should use it full-time by any means.

Yeah, the mid-90s Jets don't stand out in my mind either way. I just remember lots of green, which certainly beats the Broncos in brown with vertical striped socks. Creamsicles are cool once a year--but do Bucs fans feel slighted they only have one choice for throwback apparel? Can we be far from the NFL going comic-book and churning out alternate universe uniforms?

40
by C (not verified) :: Tue, 03/16/2010 - 7:54pm

That's what I'm saying with Denver's puke striped sock uniform.

I can remember watching a pregame show in the mid 90's where they asked NFL players for their opinion on the best and worst uniforms. The best were the teams with black uniforms ( like the Raiders, Falcons, & Steelers) and then the Dallas Cowboys with the star.

I am no fan of the Dallas Cowboys, but I do think they have some of if not the best threads in the league. I like the Chargers powder blues, the Giants blue's, the Steelers, and Raiders aren't bad, but the new Falcons uniforms look stupid with the sleeves like that. I'm certainly much more of a fan of blue, black, and silver than the reds, greens,yellows, oranges and purple.

I think a lot of your perception depends on how good the team is. For example, in college football what if the Miami hurricanes were a bad team? Do you think people would like those Orange and Green unis as much?

I sort of put the Seacocks Greens in the same category as the Eagles FUBU jerseys except I really don't mind Seattle's sewage lime greens as much.

48
by The Guy You Don't Want to Hear (not verified) :: Tue, 03/16/2010 - 11:29pm

I think Miami's uniforms are hideous.

But, as a Bronco fan, I will always maintain that their original uniforms are the ugliest thing ever worn by human beings.

Supposedly, the owner bought them from a defunct league on the cheap. The only person I know who was alive and interested at the time is my grandfather (a fan of the Broncos from their inception), and he swears this is true.

54
by sundown (not verified) :: Wed, 03/17/2010 - 11:36am

The Hurricanes were okay until these current uniforms--I absolutely despise that contrast piping that runs across the back under the player's name. But, best to stop discussing college before Oregon comes up. You could run an entire thread just on their 200-some different looks--all from the last decade and all hideous.

I heard someplace that Marlon Brando used to test directors by doing a crappy reading on the first day--if the director called him on it, he'd give a good performance; if not, he'd phone it in for the entire project. I picture Nike's designers doing the same thing--they sent over the crappiest design they could think of and when Oregon didn't say no they decided to let the drunk color-blind intern do all their threads.

The Worst Jersey Ever Created... New Jersey?

Yeah, it looks like ass, like every throwback from the "what is this forward pass thing" era.

by Marko :: Tue, 03/16/2010 - 7:05pm

Yeah, I saw them. They are really ugly. By the way, I read that the Packers may actually wear them twice this year. Avert your eyes.

As for some other comments, I actually like the Bucs' creamsicle uniforms. I think they look a lot better than the uniforms they wear now. The pewter pants look putrid, particularly on the lineman. However, Buccaneer Bruce on the old Tampa Bay helmets is too wimpy to be a pirate. I'm sure Raiderjoe would agree that's not what a pirate on a helmet should look like.

But I think the worst NFL throwbacks are the Jets' throwbacks. Not the 1990s era Jets - the AFL NY Titans' throwbacks they still wear once a year. Those are hideous.

38
by Theo :: Tue, 03/16/2010 - 7:46pm

But that was worn in black and white. So no one cared.

41
by Marko :: Tue, 03/16/2010 - 8:05pm

Maybe back then. But we care now when we are subjected to those hideous unis every year.

But at the risk of contradicting myself, an even worse uniform is the Broncos' brown and yellow abomination with the vertically-striped socks. I forgot about that even though others had mentioned it above. That uniform is absolutely awful.

51
by S :: Wed, 03/17/2010 - 10:33am

I admit that when I clicked this link, I was sure that those jerseys were the ones being described. A) they look horrible and B) No Packers fan under 60 will care.

Gotta agree. And combined with the amount of alcohol consumed at a typical Premier League game, I'm sure many fans had a hard time even following the game.

I've seen the arsenal one.

Reminded me of the '88 Netherlands team that won the European Championship. Which makes it the most beautiful shirt ever.
