Suck, suck, suck. Good, underrated player, particularly good against the run, by all accounts a good guy, at a position where the Giants have been hit hard -- Bruce Johnson out for year as well, Prince Amukamara out for half the season with a broken foot. He tore it colliding with Jason Pierre-Paul on a blitz with 22 seconds left in the first half of tonight's game. Not a lot of free agents out there. Kelvin Hayden might fit, as Perry Fewell likes to play Cover-2.

Lane Johnson and D.J. Fluker were selected high in the draft, but both have troubling flaws in pass protection according to Word of Muth.

Re: Terrell Thomas Torn ACL, Out for Year
Asante Samuel is available for a 2011 and 2012 2nd round pick.
Re: Terrell Thomas Torn ACL, Out for Year
The 2011 pick probably isn't worth much four months after the draft.
Re: Terrell Thomas Torn ACL, Out for Year
It is also particularly poor timing for Thomas, given that he is entering the last year of his rookie contract. That play is probably going to have a pretty huge impact on his lifetime earning potential.
I suppose that it's good for the Giants that the injuries, if they have to come, are coming at what appeared to be a position of exemplary depth. They started out camp with 4 guys who a lot of teams would be penciling into their starting lineups (Webster, Thomas, Ross, and Amukamara), but have now lost 2 of them, plus their best prospect for the 5th CB spot (Bruce Johnson), and maybe the their next best, too (word is that Brian Witherspoon suffered an at-least-sprained MCL returning a 2nd-half punt last night). It looks like Fewell will have to spend the first month of the season scheming around weakness at the 3rd CB spot. After that point, we can hope that Amukamara is a quick healer and a quick study.
Re: Terrell Thomas Torn ACL, Out for Year
Don't follow the Giants--but, if Prince is out for 1/2 the year, won't he have plenty of time to be in the film room with his fellow DB's? I understand the more reps in practice=being better in games for rookies, but I don't think he'll need to be a "quick study". He better be putting in lots of study time when he isn't in rehab.
Re: Terrell Thomas Torn ACL, Out for Year
Sure, hopefully he'll have the language mastered. But it generally takes some time on the field for a rookie to adapt to the speed of the pro game and get to where he is executing the system decisively and confidently.
Also, I think Aaron was rounding up on Amukamara's injury prognosis. The estimates I've heard are that he'll be ready sometime around week 5. If things go well, I suspect we'll see him in spot appearances at first, and moving into the nickel role after the week 7 Bye.
Re: Terrell Thomas Torn ACL, Out for Year
Not to the effin' Giants, he isn't.
