Aaron Schatz on Peter King Podcast

What do Doug Williams and I have in common? Not much, but we are both on this week's Peter King podcast discussing Robert Griffin III. I also give some thoughts about clutch quarterbacking (and baseball closers) and share the name of the only quarterback who seems to play better in the fourth quarter than he does overall, year after year after year. Link to listen to podcast is on the right side of the page, about halfway down; you can find it on iTunes as well. I start in about 18:00.

Sad to hear Peter King perpetuate the "So Doug Williams, how long have you been a black quarterback?" urban legend. The poor reporter, whose question was misheard, had his career permanently and unjustly tainted.

I generally find Snopes to be a credible source but I have a problem with their characterization of this question as an "urban legend". They incorrectly refer to the question as being asked on Media Day. The supposed de-bunking comes from other reporters who were present on Media Day and heard a different and more intelligent question. Fair enough. But I watched the game and heard the question as "how long have you been a black quarterback?" My wife, who is no football fan looked up from her reading and said "Did he really just say that?" You don't forget something as jaw-droppingly STOOPID as that question, and we heard it quite clearly. However it was not asked on Media day, but during post-game locker room interviews while the Redskins were celebrating the win. I have no idea who the questioner was. My guess at the time was that he was a local TV guy... No doubt the reporter who asked the more thoughtful question on Media Day has been unfairly blamed for this, which is unfortunate.

According to Snopes, Williams misheard the question and repeated back as "how long have you been a black quarterback?" Maybe you just remember hearing him repeat it back?

Always love it when King specifies completion percentage to one decimal point.

This is definitely a blog that people need to get behind. The problem is, no one wants to do a great deal of reading and not have something else to stimulate the mind. This is the internet, after all Chat Random
