ESPN Magazine/Insider Deal

For those of you who aren't ESPN Insiders, Amazon is currently offering a 1-year subscription to ESPN the Magazine for $5. That will also get you Insider access for one year. Offer may expire at any time, but it pops up on Amazon from time to time. Note for our international readers: offer may not apply outside the US.

Amazon's site says this lasts through Dec 3rd.

ESPN The Magazine doesn't appear to be available on Amazon.co.uk.

This seems like a really good deal though. Anyone know a way to actually get access to Amazon.com deals from other countries?

Have you tried going to amazon.com and telling the computer that you're in the US? I don't think it's wrong to lie to a machine

You need to give them a US delivery address. If I knew the address of a doctor's surgery or other worthy clinic, I'd buy this and donate the magazine there. People are always looking for ten minute time fillers in waiting rooms.

I wish I could get Insider without getting the magazine. Insider is good but the magazine is beyond useless, and I already get too many magazines.

Yeah I rarely even flip through the magazine before it hits the recycle bin, but I've done these $5 deals the last few years so that I can get Insider, which has about $5 a year value.

You don't have to get a physical magazine. You can choose to receive the magazine electronically, in which case you get emailed a link once a month to what I believe is a java version to read online. Also, I believe you can get an app for a tablet or smartphone that allows you to access it that way; I don't have either so I've never tried it but I see ads telling me I can do it.

Somehow I don't think this is going to be a problem. You don't have to read something just because it comes to your house.

Perhaps you could donate it by using the address of a local junior high school. There are hundreds of thousands of potential solutions to this "problem."

ESPN The Magazine still exists? Who knew?

Can you give it as a gift to some kid who won't know any better and keep the insider part for yourself?

That's win-win thinking, man.

Even better, if you have a kid in youth sports but kind of dislike the coach, get the magazine as an end of season "gift" (Hey, if you don't like it, then screw you! If you're dumb enough to like it, then, um, enjoy!) and keep insider for yourself. I'm thinking my mother-in-law really needs her some ESPN The Magazine this Christmas....

anybody who clicks through will probably notice this, but just be warned that it's a 1-year auto-renewal deal. if you don't cancel before the year is up, it'll automatically renew you for another year, presumably at the regular subscriber rate.

As a former subscriber, that's definitely something to keep track of. I had to jump through hoops to unsubscribe and it actually took a couple of years to finally get it. I called ESPN Magazine, but they couldn't do anything because ESPN was a separate affiliated and that's where my account was. The magazine was just complimentary. It was just a bunch of confusing b.s.

Basically, they keep a credit card number on file and auto-renew it when your subscription is nearing an end. But you can't delete the card from the account while your subscription is active. Now you can see how they get you.

Anyway, what I did was I used the card # from one of those Visa gift cards I got for Christmas one year that only had a couple of dollars left. I edited the account so it'd use that instead. Technically, it was an active card. But when it came time for the auto-renew, there wasn't enough money on the card to purchase it, so it finally got canceled.

Use a temporary credit card number to avoid auto-renew hassle.

Wait....people actually want ESPN Insider access now? I haven't had access in a couple of years now, but back then at least it was more worthless than The Magazine, which you could at least use to help start a fire or train a puppy.

I pay the $5 strictly to read Keith Law's stuff, myself.
