Is this the end of the murky "student-athlete" term? The real question is if this will hold up on appeal, but the NLRB believes that Northwestern athletes qualify as employees.

The biggest of the remaining free agent dominoes fell this morning, in a surprising place. Jared Allen is headed to his old rivals in Chicago, to replace Julius Peppers. It's a four-year, $32 million contract that's more like a two-year, $15.5 million guaranteed contract. I really don't think Allen is anywhere near done. He had 11.5 sacks and 25 quarterback hurries last year (according to the FO game charting data that we're about 98 percent done cleaning up).

Ralph Wilson, who has owned the Buffalo Bills since the founding of the American Football League in 1959, passed away today at the age of 95. We'll link an article once we have one.

PK talks replay process changes, officiating bloodlines, and more Manziel than you can shake a stick at.

The Panthers receiving corps, Cowboys defensive line, and Chiefs offensive line take center stage as I try to solve the NFL's stickiest depleted-roster situations.

Leon Hall's season was cut short, but he played enough to remind everyone that he is still a shutdown cornerback.

I figured this move needed its own thread rather than going in the big master free agency thread. Michael Vick signed a one-year deal with the New York Jets today for an undisclosed amount. This will of course do wonders for Geno Smith's confidence, I'm sure. It's not a terrible decision for Vick, however; he's reunited with offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg and the Jets will have a better defense and better chance to contend than, say, the Raiders.

Al Davis always liked the Raiders to have quarterbacks that could throw the deep ball, so, maybe it's best he isn't around to see this.
The Texans will get a sixth-round pick for their troubles. Blaine Gabbert currency!

If the NFL playoffs had expanded to 14 games in 1990, back when it expanded to 12, we would have coped with lots of 8-8 playoff teams in the last 20+ years. Here are some of the worst, including the Schottenheimer Redskins and Bubby Brister Eagles.

Offensive tackle Eric Winston is the new head of the players' union. He might be my favorite current player on Twitter, thanks to occasional actual insightful football comments. Let's hope he's as smart when it comes to labor issues. Winston played in Arizona a year ago and is currently a free agent.

After three NFL seasons of kicking off from the 35-yard line, what has been the impact on touchbacks, returns, field position, scoring and injuries? Also, is this rule responsible for a record number of big comebacks?
