Well this is weird. From the AP: "Former Pro Bowl defensive tackle Corey Simon will miss the rest of the season after being placed on the non-football illness-injury list Thursday by the Indianapolis Colts."

This should be fun. LaVar Arrington will face his former team Sunday when the Redskins play the Giants. Arrington has been a nonfactor so far this season, and his former team was never all that impressed with him either, apparently. According to the article, linebackers coach Dale Lindsey commented that "Arrington couldn't help the Giants prepare for the Redskins because he didn't know anything when he was with the Redskins." Cornerback Shawn Springs added that "Arrington didn't seem to know the Redskins' defense." Ouch. (bugmenot/free registration required)

Every so often I go looking through the referral logs, and visit some of the blogs that link to us. Here's one from reader Pacifist Viking (a name you might recognize from the discussion threads), and he looks at which teams might actually want Randy Moss when he inevitably gets traded out of Oakland in 2007. I really should do this more often; one of the original goals of Extra Points was to link to more local papers and blogs, rather than just lots of ESPN.com stuff.

I know we've talked about our love affair with NFL Matchup before, but SI.com's Nunyo Demasio offers more praise for a show that is easily the best on television. As a side note, I think Demasio is one of the best sportswriters no one's heard of. Before joining SI.com he wrote for the Washington Post; I liked him then and my opinion hasn't changed since he went national.

Dr. Z calls it his "yearly package of misery" and he's talking about the preliminary nomination list for the Hall of Fame Class of 2007. The funniest bit: "I'll give you a tip. Elvis Grbac, whose name appears on the list of first-time eligibles, will not make it. Guaranteed." Also, I wonder if revoking Art Shell's Hall of Fame membership will be on the agenda.

The subtitle to this Don Banks column reads: "2006 has proved many of our perceptions wrong." And in case there's any confusion, he's using the royal "our" here.

Randy Moss is continuing to struggle in a Raiders uniform, but does that mean he is done? Aaron Schatz uses similarity scores to attempt to find the future of Randy Moss. (Click link to read more.)

From the AP: "Robinson appeared in Municipal Court in Seattle, where he pleaded guilty last year to drunken driving. At the time, he was given a five-year sentence that was suspended on condition he not drink or have any other law violations. The former first-round draft pick was then released by the Seattle Seahawks and signed by the Minnesota Vikings. But Robinson was charged with drunk driving again after he was stopped for speeding in August in Minnesota near the Vikings' training camp, leading to Wednesday's hearing.

The fact that the unnamed Oakland coach specifically in charge of replay challenges totally blew an important replay challenge -- in a game the Raiders eventually lost ... after leading by 18 points -- pretty much encapsulates this team's season. Compounding matters, Randy Moss later admitted to Chris Myers that "I'm not concerned about football right now ... I'm loving life." Not exactly what you want to hear from your No. 1 receiver if you're Art Shell.

The Bucs' rookie made a lot of big plays last year, but he'll need to cut down on turnovers and sloppy throws to live up to his draft status.
