Apparently, Carson Palmer hasn't made his way back onto the field fast enough for Marvin Lewis. According to Len Pasquarelli, "It was reported during Sunday's nationally broadcast preseason game that Lewis had suggested the team needed to 'fish or cut bait with Carson Palmer.'" Lewis later backed off this statement, but the Bengals head coach does know that his backup is currently Anthony Wright, right?

After injuring his knee in last night's preseason game, Vikings first-round pick Chad Greenway is done for the season.
UPDATE: Things just got worse for Minnesota; Koren Robinson was arrested last night on suspicion of drunken driving.

Tony Kornheiser gets a less than stellar review from the Washington Post, of all places. To be fair, it's preseason for the announcing crew too, so I'm willing to cut Mr. Tony some slack. (free registration/bugmenot required)

Let's just hope no one in the studio fake-moons Joe Buck during the pregame show. The mock exasperated incredulity might be too much for Jimmy Johnson's hair.

D.J. Gallo don't need no stinkin' KUBIAK projections. Of course, he's sure to finish last in his league, but that kinda misses the point. No. 9 on his list might be my favorite.

Who do you think Peter King writes about in the opening to this week's Monday Morning Quarterback? C'mon, guess. If you said Brett Favre, you win!

Ah, Southeast Jerome, we hardly knew ye. Now, Washington halfback Clinton Portis will be out at least the rest of the preseason with what has been diagnosed as a subluxation (partial dislocation) of his left shoulder in the Redskins' 19-3 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals on the NBC Sunday Night Football debut. In addition, Washington linebacker Chris Clemons suffered a sprained knee ligament in the first quarter.

When teams are heavily penalized, who is responsible? It turns out there's plenty of blame to go around: not only to the players, but to the officials. Some officiating crews simply call more penalties than others, and different officiating crews call different penalties at different rates. When you get stuck with the more penalty-happy refs, you end up like the New York Giants: second in penalties in 2005, but also first in penalties by their opponents.

Head coach Bill Parcells has named career backup QB Tony Romo the starter for tonight's preseason game, which has led to some speculation that Romo could be the Week 1 starter too. From the article: "Whispers around Oxnard are that Cowboys coaches think [Drew] Bledsoe still does too many stupid things that cost his team. He holds the ball too long. He is sack-prone. He is good for a throw a game that coaches, fans and everybody else instantly want back." Yep, that sounds like the Bledsoe I remember during his AFC East days, but come on, he's still better than Romo, right?

The Vikings' quarterback seemed to regress in his second season. Did that tell us more about the player, or the Minnesota offensive scheme?
