Is Josh McCown so bad that the Cardinals need to sign Kurt Warner to a three-year deal that will pay him $7 million in 2006? Seven million !?! (Thanks to Sid for the pointer)

Chad Pennington is scheduled to make $9 million in salary and bonuses for next season. Since the Jets are approxmately $26 million over the cap, they'd like Chad to restructure his contract. If they keep Pennington, he'll have a cap figure of $15 million. If they cut him, Pennington will still count $12 million against the cap. Will Pennington take one for the team and restructure? Why should he when the team has been rumored to be looking for a replacement for him either through free agency (Kerry Collins) or the draft (Jay Cutler)?

The Chiefs are roughly $20 million over the salary cap (Kansas City has obligations totaling $116 million for 2006, and the cap, which hasn't been set, is expected to be somewhere in the $95 million range). This means that if Herman Edwards and company are serious about acquiring T.O., some tough personnel decisions will have to be made. Interestingly, guys like Jerome Woods and Priest Holmes are cheaper to keep around, but Kendrell Bell, Eric Warfield and Dexter McCleon could get their walking papers. Thanks to Israel for the pointer. (free registration/bugmenot required)

Reality TV has hit a new low. From the press release: "T.O. TV plans to combine Owens' 'passion for working out with his natural curiosity about other people.'" No word yet on whether Eric Nies or David Edwards will also live in the house. (free registration/bugmenot required)

General manager Ozzie Newsome confirms that Ray Lewis asked to be traded before the 2005 season, and the Ravens have shopped him around this off-season, "but no team has offered more than a second-round pick for the linebacker." A second round pick sounds like a lot for a great player on the downside of his career.

Does anyone follow the NFL skill contests at the Pro Bowl? If you're interested, DeAngelo Hall won the Fastest Man competition. And if you're wondering how well these skills competitions translate to on-field ability, check this out: "Vick...finished ahead of Indianapolis' Peyton Manning in the accuracy contest."

Not that John Elway has any say in the matter, but he believes his former team would be making a big mistake if it signed Terrell Owens. "I think there are a lot of things about T.O. that none of us really knows, but obviously he can ruin a football team," Elway told the Denver Post Friday evening. "If it were up to me I would say no. I think the Broncos are close enough anyway, and they don't need a guy who's too much of a risk." Terrell Davis and Shannon Sharpe have also said they think signing Owens would be a mistake.

Every NFL team now has a head coach as the Raiders have brought back Art Shell. I've always been puzzled why Shell never got another offer after the Raiders fired him last time. I'm glad to see him back.
