The Washington Redskins have traded a third-round pick to the Atlanta Falcons for running back T.J. Duckett. The Falcons then turned around and traded a third-round choice to Denver for wide receiver Ashley Lelie. Does this mean Portis' injury is more serious than first reported? Lelie is an interesting replacement for Brian Finneran but it seems to me that he duplicates Roddy White's strengths and weaknesses. Perhaps with Vick's arm strength, maybe it is best to have two deep threats. Anyway, I'm off to screw with KUBIAK yet again...

Yes, the rumors are true. Will Carroll's injury column will no longer be appearing at Football Outsiders; instead, he's moved on to the greener pastures of ESPN.com. However, even though Will is no longer part of Football Outsiders, he's still part of Football Outsiders. Huh? The explanation: He won't be writing for us during the season, but he'll still be contributing to Pro Football Prospectus 2007. We're here to provide him with things like similarity scores and he's around when the FO staff has injury questions.

This week, Gregg Easterbrook devotes most of his column to ... basketball? "Tuesday Morning Quarterback considers basketball roughly 1 percent as interesting as football. And so each year, in the doldrums of August, TMQ devotes one percent of the column's annual line length to roundball issues." Free Darko! Oh wait.

The NFL Network just jumped the shark.

With the subtlety of a two-by-four to the back of the noggin, Evil Gumbel is already in the NFL doghouse for comments he made about the head of the players union and he has yet to collect his first paycheck. Instead of losing his job, his penance could be working with Joe Theismann for an entire season. Then maybe he'd think twice before opening his mouth.

The subtitle to Peter King's latest reads: "Palmer, Owens, Cowher face preseason controversy." One of these is not like the others. Carson Palmer is coming back from major knee surgery and doesn't want to rush things in preseason. Bill Cowher made his retirement comments to Jerome Bettis back in the spring and he hasn't talked to him since. Terrell Owens wears a helmet while riding a stationary bike and is already giving Bill Parcells migraines. I would say these are three very disparate examples of "controversy."

Note to all Dolphins rookies: Don't get caught looking in the stands for your girlfriend during the game. Coach Saban is watching. He's always watching. (free registration/bugmenot required)

And to think, we almost put Frank Gore on the cover of the book. This doesn't change Gore's projection much; we already expected him to easily beat out Barlow for the SF starting job. You can drop Cedric Houston down your cheatsheets, finally. Unless Barlow pulls a Lee Suggs and blows his physical...

As best I can tell, the only difference between the 24-year-old me and Clinton Portis is 50 million bucks.

The Texans really screwed up with Domanick Davis; apparently, his surgery didn't go well, they didn't realize it, and now the running back position is a mess. Who's the sleeper here -- Wali Lundy or Vernand Morency? And do we all just assume that Gary Kubiak's offense will give us a valuable fantasy running back? Or was the Denver running game so good not only because of the "one cut" system, but also because of the ability to identify undervalued talent at the offensive line and running back positions?

Given the historical success of undrafted quarterbacks in the NFL, Tony Romo might as well be a national treasure. We look at the impact of developmental leagues on undrafted quarterbacks, and just how many players have tried to break through in a recent season.
