For two years now, the NFL and Zebra Technologies have been monitoring the real-time position and movement of all players via microchips in the shoulder pads. So far all we've gotten out of that is "Next Gen Stats" that show us a player's top speed during a play or similar data that seems impressive, but not terribly useful.

Per Adam Schefter on Twitter, the New England Patriots have traded defensive end Chandler Jones to the Arizona Cardinals in exchange for guard Jonathan Cooper and a second-round draft pick.
Jones is entering the final year of his current contract. The 2012 first-round pick had a career-high 12.5 sacks last year and 36.0 in four seasons in New England.

Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Martavis Bryant has been suspended without pay for a minimum of one year for violating the league's substance-abuse policy.
Brian Fettner, one of Bryant's agents, told USA Today that Bryant had missed multiple drug tests after serving a four-game suspension at the start of last year.

I forgot to post this story for discussion when the penalty was first announced, but the NFL announced it is taking away Kansas City's 2016 third-round pick and 2017 sixth-round pick as punishment for tampering with Jeremy Maclin during the 2015 offseason. That's right, the Kansas City Chiefs are CHEATERS!... for doing something that's against the rules but every team in the NFL does and we all know it. Apparently, Andy Reid spoke to Maclin during the "legal tampering period" when team officials are only supposed to be contacting agents, but not the players themselves.

It's almost old news at this point, but Calvin Johnson has now made it official, announcing his retirement via a statement on the Detroit Lions' website. He did not offer an explanation, only thanking the Lions and their fans for their support.

Monday's start to the legal tampering period produced a lot of noise and some actual news: Howie Roseman took a look at some of what Chip Kelly did in his brief tenure as the Eagles' head personnel man, and decided those weren't players that he wanted to keep. Linebacker Kiko Alonso and cornerback Byron Maxwell went first, to the Miami Dolphins. Later in the day, Adam Schefter broke the big deal, DeMarco Murray to the Tennessee Titans. Neither deal can officially be completed before the new League Year begins on Wednesday.

It seemed likely. It made a lot of sense. And now it's official: Peyton Manning will announce his retirement Monday at a press conference in Denver. He finishes his career as the NFL leader in passing yards, passing touchdowns, sack rate, game winning drives, comebacks, and internet arguments spawned over team vs. individual greatness. He topped our passing DYAR and DVOA metrics six times each in his career and had eight more seasons ranked second or third in DYAR.

Sam Bradford was a disappointment in Chip Kelly's offense last year, but what could he do in a more conventional West Coast Offense? The Eagles are going to find out, as they will bring back Bradford as their starting quarterback for the next two years. Adam Schefter reports that the deal is worth $36 million total, $26 million guaranteed. Click here for some Bradford commentary from Cian Fahey's new Pre-Snap Reads Quarterback Catalogue.

How bad was Ryan Fitzpatrick's day against Kansas City? Worse than any game David Klingler, Brandon Weeden, Donald Hollas, Ryan Leaf, or any other horrible quarterback has ever had in the past 25 years.
