Re: MMQB: History Made in Week 16
Cute how King throws the "Shula Defense" in there for poor Coach Omar Tomlin.
Switzer went .625 and won a SB with an inherited stacked roster too. Whooopdedoo. Enshrine him.

Switzer inherited a far better roster than Tomlin did in Pittsburg. I think bringing in Haley has proven to be a mistake and I can see him being shown the door, but Tomlin has been solid there.
Re: MMQB: History Made in Week 16
Is the mistake with Haley the fact that Ben doesn't like him? I think that the Pittsburgh offense was given a ball control mandate this year to keep the aging defense off the field as much as possible. And the strategy made the offense less explosive this year. Ben missed games again and the o-line was still ordinary in pass protection. Leftwich also got hurt (and looked absolutely horrible in the 2nd half of the Baltimore game) and Batch started 2 games.
I don't know if Pittsburgh is good enough to be a guaranteed playoff entrant if its QB only plays about 12 games per year, given that Baltimore is usually good, Cincy is becoming consistently good, and Cleveland is becoming a tough out.
Re: MMQB: History Made in Week 16
Omar coming yo!
You got to be one of the most intriguing poster here, your passionate, resilient hate for Tomlin is really fascinating in its own ways.
Re: MMQB: History Made in Week 16
Didn't Tomlin take over a talented team at about the same time as Norv?
Re: MMQB: History Made in Week 16
nowhere near as talented. Norv's inherited team was easily the most talented in the league by far.
Re: MMQB: History Made in Week 16
That is true
Rhen in true chargers fahdion team fail to have great success.s
Re: MMQB: History Made in Week 16
"Argument" should really be in quotes.
King missed the fact that Kai Forbath also broke an NFL record (for rookies) with his 17 straight FGs. Sweep the leg!
Re: MMQB: History Made in Week 16
I wish PK wouldn't talk about guns, if only because that leads to his comments section being filled with gun discussion blocking out any football discussion.
Re: MMQB: History Made in Week 16
You mean as opposed to interesting, rational discourse? In the comments section of an SI article?
Re: MMQB: History Made in Week 16
Gun discussions at si.com make football discussions at si.com look well-reasoned and rational by comparison.
Re: MMQB: History Made in Week 16
I can't believe that you read the comments. That sounds masochistic.
Re: MMQB: History Made in Week 16
I have to say this line made me chuckle:
"Chad (6 of 6 on the first drive against New England) Henne, staving off Tim Tebow already."
Re: MMQB: History Made in Week 16
"Stafford's going to have over 700 throws this year (he has 685 now), and the Lions are 4-11. Message there."
I'd like to know what message he's referring to... I can think of 3 possibilities :
1) Detroit isn't very good and has had to throw too much because they were behind
2) Matt Stafford isn't good enough to throw that much and win
3) No team that throws that much can be successful
I hope it's not the third one...
Re: MMQB: History Made in Week 16
How about
4) Their running game is so bad handing it off is pointless.
Re: MMQB: History Made in Week 16
The run game is a lot better than it was in 2011. They have 19 rushing TDs this year versus 10 last year, and better DVOA.
Re: MMQB: History Made in Week 16
His messnafd is tema threw a lot becuzusd stinky
Re: MMQB: History Made in Week 16
They'd look a lot less stinky if they could play the Raidets, Chefs, and LOLts twice a year.
Re: MMQB: History Made in Week 16
ZING!
Re: MMQB: History Made in Week 16
I think it's "no team that has to throw that much can be successful."
It should be: only QBs named Drew B. throw the ball that much.
http://www.pro-football-reference.com/leaders/pass_att_single_season.htm
Of the top 12 seasons for passing attempts, 8 are by either Drew Bledsoe or Drew Brees.
Re: MMQB: History Made in Week 16
I get a -0.14 correlation coefficient between wins and (team) pass attempts this season. So, doesn't seem like throwing a lot hurts your chances of winning.
I count at least seven 10-win teams with 500+ pass attempts this season, and it looks like 3 or 4 will go over 600 attempts (NE, Atl, Ind, Den).
Re: MMQB: History Made in Week 16
Lions would not beat the Raiders if were to paky next Sunday. A core wkhdl probably be something like Raiders 31, Loins 20.
Re: MMQB: History Made in Week 16
I can see the Raiders kicking 9 FGs to get to 27, but the 2 safeties to get to 31 seem a little unlikely.
Re: MMQB: History Made in Week 16
Raiders had 2 saftees one ganme vs charges 1975 os can do it again
Re: MMQB: History Made in Week 16
The scary part is, I can totally see the Lions giving up two safeties in a game. Even to the lowly Raiders.
Re: MMQB: History Made in Week 16
did they resign Dan Orlovsky?

Re: MMQB: History Made in Week 16
The Raiders have had an 80 yard safety scored against their defense. Do not underestimate their ability to record scores in improbable ways.
Re: MMQB: History Made in Week 16
I hope Raiderjoe got a spellcheck program for Xmas.
Re: MMQB: History Made in Week 16
And by "spellcheck" you naturally mean "a bottle of Glenlivet Nadurra 16 yo scotch."
Re: MMQB: History Made in Week 16
Did get.3 cases sierra Nevada products. Also bottles of rum, whiskey and vkfka. Other thjngs- B. Myers jrerssy. Raiders hoodie, Raiders wool hat. Raiders glove.
Re: MMQB: History Made in Week 16
I could go for a vkfka martini right now - shaken, not striered.
