MMQB: Malcolm Jenkins Saves Saints Season

Peter King looks at Malcolm Jenkins' great play to prevent Vincent Jackson from scoring on a 95-yard pass play, as well as the faceplant by Baltimore and the almost-comeback from Robert Griffin III.

Was Elmo referring to Jeter's injury? Because Arod hasn't played SS since he was with Texas, nine years ago.

I think it was two different references. E.g. the Yankees need a SS; And Elmo would be a good SS because he's more clutch than ARod (just like Jeter).

In any case, PK was simply passing on a tweet that was obviously intended as a joke.

And I don't see how anybody could dispute that Elmo is more clutch than ARod.

Because it takes a gut feeling to recognize the obvious? Holmgren didn't get the boot because they loved what he was doing. It'd take a miracle for either of those guys to hold onto their jobs.

Great play by Jenkins, terrible play by Jackson. Probably the worst 95-yard reception we'll ever see. I had never realized Jackson was that slow!

If he's actually that slow, then it's not really a bad play by Jackson. If someone like Joel Dreesen made the same play, you wouldn't criticize him.

But if Jackson isn't actually that slow, then yes, it's a very bad play by him. With only slightly more effort, he would have gotten his team seven more points.

Actually, Jackson isn't that slow, and from what I've heard it wasn't a matter of effort. As mentioned in the article, he was playing hurt and was supposedly slowed by that. Everyone involved acknowledged it, including Jenkins.

So when Jackson said he obviously wasn't 100%, he meant health/speed-wise, not his effort.

That makes a lot of sense. It certainly looked like Jackson was running as fast as he could.

I don't know if the article mentions it (haven't read it yet), but Jenkins also saved the Saints on the 3rd down following by tripping up Blount in the backfield, forcing the 4th down try. I believe he also pushed a receiver out of the endzone on one of those near TB TDs.

It does : "At the snap of the ball, Jenkins evaded the scrum and shot past the line, driving and corralling Blount's right leg. No gain."
