I'm excited to let you know that AOL Sports has started up a new blog devoted to the NFL, and two Outsiders (Ryan Wilson and I) will be part of it. Ryan and I are covering league-wide issues, and we've got bloggers across the country devoted to individual teams. I hope you'll check it out, but don't worry, loyal Extra Points readers: Ryan and I will still be contributing here as well.

I guess the Eagles thought this made more sense than giving up two first-rounders for Deion Branch.

Is Kerry Collins a star quarterback? No. Is Kerry Collins better than Billy Volek at this point? Probably. It will take him a couple of weeks to learn the offense, but this is a good signing for the Titans. First, Collins gives them a better chance to make a surprise run at the playoffs if their defense comes together and takes a step forward. Second, it increases the chance that Vince Young will spend the year on the sidelines learning and improving.

Time for our annual call for game charting volunteers. If you've read Pro Football Prospectus 2006, you know just how valuable this information is, and we're hoping to do more with it in the coming months. The more charters we have, the quicker we can turn around the data and use it during the season -- and the fewer people who have to cover a full game instead of just one half.

Peter King empties out his training camp notebook and doesn't mention Brett Favre once.

I know we shouldn't put too much stock in preseason performances, but is anybody else concerned about the Redskins? From the article: "The Redskins have been outscored, 87-17, in three games. Their first-team offense has not produced a point, while in three games the largely first-team defense has given up 46, including 27 against the Patriots."

Only months after signing him to a multi-year contract extension, the Vikings waived Koren Robinson on Saturday. While this might be the best move for the Vikings, it's hard to imagine that it's the best thing for Koren Robinson, the person.

Anybody remember Brian Jackson? No? Well, here's a refresher: "A man charged with impersonating Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger to get dates was accused of stealing $3,200 from a different woman by telling her he was another player on the team, tight end Jerame Tuman." Hey, at least he gave up on the Brian St. Pierre charade.

You know what really grinds my gears? All these guys signing one-day contracts. Among the guys who have been reported to sign one-day contracts to retire with a team are Jerry Rice, Junior Seau, Derrick Alexander, Randall Godfrey, and Tim Brown. Am I the only one who doubts whether they're signing them at all? What, exactly, is the point? It's obviously not a real contract: as Mike Florio has pointed out, these teams don't have any extra roster space to add a player for a day.

The Panthers need tackles, the Saints need pass-rushers, the Bucs need a safety, while the conference champs need help on... offense?
