Two big injuries to middle linebackers. Dallas will lose Sean Lee for the year due to a very severe case of turf toe, with a complete tear. Carolina will lose Jon Beason to a knee injury that he suffered in Week 4 -- the second straight season he's been lost for most of the season. Both of these injuries are at a severe enough level that these players may not be the same when they return. We're already getting kind of used to Beason no longer being the player he once was, but if Sean Lee can't come back at the same level that's a real shame.

Offensive line problems highlight the needs in the NFC North ... except in Chicago, which is kind of unsettling to think about.

Re: Sean Lee, Jon Beason Done for Season
Sean Lee accomplishes the rare feat of playing for the Cowboys AND be underrated. He and Romo are basically alone in that club.
Re: Sean Lee, Jon Beason Done for Season
Yeah, absolutely nobody ever talks about how good Romo is. Ever.
Re: Sean Lee, Jon Beason Done for Season
Romo gets so much criticism that I think he really is underrated.
Re: Sean Lee, Jon Beason Done for Season
These overrated/underrated arguments are always tricky, because you're offering an opinion on (A) how good the player is, (B) how good the player is 'rated' as being, and (C) how closely the player's actual level matches with the player's 'rated' level.
I will say that I think Romo gets criticized more than most other QBs of his caliber. I'd guess it's because the Cowboys historically have had much better quarterback play than most other teams, so Cowboys fans have higher expectations of their QBs than fans of other teams. Also, Romo's occasional rashes of turnovers are so glaring that they can stick in people's memories and overshadow his frequent good performances.
Re: Sean Lee, Jon Beason Done for Season
I think Romo just gets talked about more than most QBs of his abilities. Thus why some people think he's overrated and others think underrated.
Re: Sean Lee, Jon Beason Done for Season
I kind of like that theory. Call it the Dallas Magnification Effect.
Re: Sean Lee, Jon Beason Done for Season
Romo is criticized because he screws up too much for someone with his ability. That's very different from being underrated, which means someone who performs better than expected and doesn't get recognition because of some other factor.

Can the Panthers hire Marty Hurney so that they can fire him again?
Re: Sean Lee, Jon Beason Done for Season
Sure, just don't let Marty Hurney determine how much he should be paid.
Re: Sean Lee, Jon Beason Done for Season
I lol'd... and choked back tears at the same time.
Re: Sean Lee, Jon Beason Done for Season
In (I think it was) 2010 Beason was a BEAST!I thought he was one of the best linebackers in the NFL, he really stood out on an otherwise crappy defense. It sucks to see that kind of ability go to waste.
Even as a Redskins fan, I have to like Sean Lee as a player. When I'm not being a Redskins homer, I root for the best talent, and Lee had it. I hope he makes a full recovery, so when the Redskins beat the Cowboys it will mean something.
