This went totally under the radar, but Saints receiver Michael Thomas set a rookie wide receiver record for receiving DYAR this year. (Click to read more.)

AFC teams fared notably better than NFC teams as far as injuries are concerned as the playoff field was whittled down to four.

The Pittsburgh Steelers playoff game in Kansas City this Sunday has been moved from a 1:05 p.m. EST kickoff to 8:20 p.m. EST due to an ice storm that is expected to hit the region that morning.

More head coaching news: In less than a year, Anthony Lynn has gone from running backs coach to offensive coordinator to interim head coach of the Bills to head coach of the new Los Angeles Football Clippers. This is interesting, because Lynn has been a coach in the league for 17 years but always as a position coach until Greg Roman was fired by Buffalo early in this season. He's never gone through a training camp in any kind of management position -- not as a coordinator, let alone as a head coach.
This leaves San Francisco as the last open job. Anyone want it?

It's official. The Los Angeles Rams have hired Washington offensive coordinator Sean McVay as their new head coach. McVay, who turns 31 in two weeks, is the youngest head coach in modern NFL history and will be younger than some of the players on his team's roster. The Washington offenses he coordinated ranked 28th in 2014, 12th in 2015, and 5th in 2016 by DVOA. After "fixing" Kirk Cousins, his next job will be to help "fix" Jared Goff and the rest of the Rams 32nd-ranked offense, while improving the defense and selling the team in one of the biggest media markets. A very interesting hire.

It passed a bit under the radar, but 2016 was a historical season for running backs and how much schedule affected their productivity through the prism of our advanced stats. (Click to read more.)

This has been a possibility for the last couple years, and reporting that it was final started to circulate last night. Now it's official: the San Diego Chargers will become the Los Angeles Chargers.

It's not official yet, but all signs point to the Buffalo Bills hiring Carolina Panthers defensive coordinator Sean McDermott as head coach.

OK, the head coaching dominoes are beginning to fall, starting with the best available job. Miami defensive coordinator Vance Joseph will take over in Denver. No, the Dolphins defense was not good this year, and it faded down the stretch. Look instead at what Joseph did before that with the Houston defensive backs (2011-2013) and Cincinnati defensive backs (2014-2015). You don't hire a head coach to scheme, you hire a head coach to manage personnel and serve as locker room CEO. A lot of people I know in the NFL have long been very high on Joseph's ability to do those things.

It's a year of huge cornerback contracts, with A.J. Bouye and Stephon Gilmore breaking the bank. But will these big-money contracts, and the big-time gambles associated with them, pay off?
