Major Weekend FA Signings: Dumervil to Baltimore, Vollmer Re-Signs with Patriots

Elvis Dumervil today signed with the Baltimore Ravens, where he'll replace Paul Kruger. I guess that means that the Ravens didn't feel Courtney Upshaw was ready to start. The reports on Dumervil's contract are a little confusing, but apparently it's a "five-year deal" (yeah, right) where Dumervil will get $8.5 million in the first season but count only $2.5 million on the cap. The Broncos are apparently looking at either John Abraham or Dwight Freeney to replace him.

In other news from this weekend, the Patriots have re-signed right tackle Sebastian Vollmer, and the Falcons will be signing Osi Umenyiora to replace Abraham.

Sad panda. Best of luck to Dumervil in Baltimore.

I agree wholeheartedly. I'm dispppointed in the way the entire situation played out, but hopefully something better becomes of it for all parties involved.

Are there any numbers for the Vollmer deal?

I'm very okay with that. 4 years 17M with another 10M in incentives if hes healthy/good.

Ravens certainly have an interesting roster on D. A few big dudes on the line: Ngata, Canty, McPhee, Arthur Jones, Terrence Cody, Marcus Spears. A couple of OLB/DE tweener guys: Suggs, Dumervil, Upshaw. And no linebackers or safeties of note now that Ellerbe, Lewis, Reed and Pollard have walked. Bar perhaps Jameel McClain, who didn't overwhelm me with awesomeness last year.

I thought Mcclellan played decent at ILB in 2011, but in 2012 he was just playing OLB. I think the Ravens will move him inside again since they have 3 good OLBs and a couple of developmental guys behind them.

I think they'll move Ngata to NT since they have 4 solid 3-4 DE's at this point. D-line and OLB look to be a strength, as does CB, whereas ILB and S need work.
