My essential services list includes Romopology and Texans effigy smokejumpers, but not Jim Irsay selfie pics.

Interesting point about Schaub and age. I think fans look at Favre, Brady, Brees , and (Good God!) Manning all playing well older than Schaub and we're had a paradigm shift that maybe represents the exceptions rather than the rules. At 32 these guys would normally fade and by 34 be retired. The four I mentioned above are freakish exceptions.

10 years is probably the norm for a quality starter (you can always tack on five years of competent backup work), not the 15 or so that a few guys flirt with or Favre's 20. With that in mind, are guys like Roethlisberger, Eli Manning, Romo (apparently not) and Rivers (apparently not) nearing the ends of their useful lives as alpha starters?

And Mike, that's "rolling ball of butcher knives." Misleading, mistaken perhaps, but an awesome turn of phrase. The "butcher" part makes it much more percussive on the tongue and aggressive sounding.
