One interesting factoid in there (from a NE fan point of view, anyways) is that the 2012 Patriots ran 205 more plays than the 2010 Patriots (12.8 more plays per game).

That's what? An extra possession and a half a game?

Though I wonder how much of that was due to the faster pace and how much was due to a very high takeaway/giveaway difference.

And maybe it's because the defense is better?

We really need to know how many snaps the defense had to play to make a judgment about the pace of play.

No, the Patriots don't worry that Gronk is out for the playoffs. They won't worry until they look at his cap hits down the line.

One would like to think that Peter King, an NFL writer for a highly respected national sports publication, wouldn't revert to the "guys who were chosen ahead of X" meme so beloved of blowhards who call talk radio stations. (But then one remembers that it's Peter King...)

I mean, everyone knows that NFL general managers have access to a supersecret computer that accurately predicts each college football players' professional performance and that the annual draft is a charade, with each team simply choosing the next name on the ranked list.

If he wants to play that game, he should go back over his own discussions of drafted players and demonstrate that he invariably correctly predicted the NFL careers of each drafted player.

Sorry to rant and rave about this, but stupidity sometimes annoys me.

I realize it's annoying, but sometimes it is relevant. The reason Mike Tannenbaum is unemployed right now is whiffing on the quarterback position with Sanchez. If the Jets had been able to draft either Kaepernick or Russell Wilson as fallback guys, he would probably still have a job. The irony is that the draft guys in the organization were high on both of them.

There's a lot of stupidity in his articles. Like his calling the Ravens out on "disrespecting" a reporter who asked Ray Lewis about an article written about his 2000 murder case. You think that might not be the time, guy?

I have no problem with the Ravens mocking someone for having such bad judgment. But Peter King's a reporter and a company man, so he thought that was offensive. Nevermind that the original question was stupid and pointless (and indeed, consider offensive by the Ravens in context).

Lewis is about to retire and the media slobberfest is really getting revved up. It damn well is the right time to make sure that's not forgotten amidst the upcoming hagiography.

I'm sorry, but *it* sure as hell isn't. Not right after a ridiculously well-contested upset victory. You want to interview an athlete over old issues? You wait until it's not right after a game, and you conduct a professional interview where the player isn't ambushed.

It sure is the time. Every reporter, every time should ask Ray Lewis what he did with the blood stained suit he was wearing that night, which disappeared that night, was never recovered by police, and which Lewis refused to explain at the trial. Meanwhile, no one was every convicted of the murder. He is scum.

Beat me to it. There are few things lazier than the "look at these sub-par players that were drafted before this good player".

A specific example of the inanity of this: He lists Derek Sherrod, who was the Packers' first round pick two years ago. First, it was a decent pick, Sherrod broke his leg, but he didn't really have a history of injury prior to that, and still has potential. Second, is PK actually saying that the Packers should've taken Kaepernick in the first round two years ago, with a then-27-year-old Rodgers who had just been named Super Bowl MVP? Just utterly and completely idiotic, although I doubt that he actually thought it through that thoroughly.

I have never really cared for Peter King's style of writing. I'm just not interested in his train rides and where he gets his coffee.
