Well, this changes things a bit, especially when it comes to press-written narratives. Tony Romo suffered a back injury in yesterday's win over Washington, a herniated disk in the lumbar region. He toughed it out enough to make the comeback and win the game, but the injury requires surgery and apparently is so bad he won't be able to play the rest of the season. That means Kyle Orton will start against the Eagles in the must-win Week 17 game. Good thing the Cowboys went out last year and got maybe the best backup quarterback in the game. Unfortunately, the current DVOA ratings aren't so high on the Cowboys' chances even if Romo were healthy, despite being at home. The playoff odds report gives them a 29.3 percent chance to win the game.

Possibly the closest Super Bowl matchup in history also poses the question: how much does it mean when certain aspects of an NFL team improve dramatically in the second half of the season?
