Roger Goodell's fickle finger of fate has once again pointed towards an NFL team, this time the Seattle Seahawks. They'll lose a 2017 fifth-round pick for violating offseason rules prohibiting excessive contact in OTAs. At least this penalty seems to be a joint decision of the NFL and the NFLPA after watching practice video of the workout in question, rather than just Goodell's random decision.

This is some varsity-level scapegoating here. Greg Roman took a backup quarterback nobody wanted and turned that into a top-10 offense by DVOA even though LeSean McCoy and Sammy Watkins couldn't always stay healthy. Meanwhile, the Bills defense collapsed last season. And yet, after a 37-31 loss, who gets fired? That's right, goodbye Greg Roman, being replaced by RB coach Anthony Lynn.

I figured I should provide a place for FO readers to debate these horrible monstrosities. After all, we've always been about having fun with elements of fandom, not just stat analysis. These uniforms are mostly awful, and the fact that they didn't color coordinate so that both teams in a game would wear them at the same time seems ridiculous too. The whole thing is ridiculous. The best ones are the ones that are naturally traditional, like the Giants in all white with the red and blue trim. Last year's Rams-Bucs game, on the other hand, was a hiddeous affront against nature.

Hey folks! I'm back with a revamped and rebranded Monday morning wrapup.
Just to update longtime readers, I will not be writing game previews this year. After 10 years, I could use a break from that weekly grind, and B/R has me doing more features and such.
Speaking of B/R, we have quite an FO presence now with Doug Farrar spearheading the new Top 1000 scouting project and Cian Fahey scouting the quarterbacks. Come check us out, then come on back to FO for a deeper look at the numbers.

If you think the NFL product has been lacking in recent years, you are not alone. Just consider the age of the players. Kevin Clark of The Ringer has an interesting piece on the concern of more young players entering the league, fewer older players making rosters, and what effect that can have on the fundamentals of football. Our snap-weighted age metric is mentioned as the average age of rosters has gradually decreased from 27.2 in 2006 to a record-low 26.6 in 2015. There is also an interesting story of Baltimore coach John Harbaugh approaching DeMaurice Smith, the head of the NFLPA, at Tray Walker's funeral in March to express his dismay with the NFL's current rules for offseason contact between coaches and players.

This week: a bad coach gets paid, then insulted; a bad quarterback gets optimistic; another bad quarterbcak gets a cunning plan; a bad play gets Matt Ryan irked; a bad play gets burned; and Jets and Raiders fans get drunk.
