Why in the world is he surprised Mets/Yankees drew less interest than the draft? Few people outside of New York care about the Yankees when they aren't that good, and they kinda stink this year. No one outside of New York cares about the Mets, even in years they don't both stink. Worse, I'm pretty sure no on IN New York cares about either team right now.

I think King's numbers (671,000 to 225,000 households) were for the New York market only, but even then they don't make much sense. According to http://www.nytimes.com/2014/05/17/sports/baseball/yankees-turn-the-clock..., the Yankees' local broadcast (which was over-the-air that Monday) had 494,000 viewers by itself (which is around a 5.0 local rating), and the Mets' local broadcast (which was on cable) had at least 200,000.

Why he would compare the ratings of a once-a-year national event to a local midweek baseball game is another question.
