Time for one of our occasional calls looking for videotapes of old games so we can complete past seasons of play-by-play and do DVOA/DYAR ratings. We're done transcribing 1988 and we'll be working on that spreadsheet over the offseason, which means the transcription project has moved to 1987. The NFL does not have gamebooks for the games listed below. We've tried to contact the teams themselves. We've checked for these games on a lot of different tape trading sites, with either no luck finding the games or no luck getting a response. Now we're going to you, the readers. If any of you are part of the tape-trading community, perhaps you can help us find these games.
If you can help us out, let us know in the comments or e-mail us at info-at-footballoutsiders.com.
For those curious, the plan is to do DVOA/DYAR based on a 12-game season without the three strike games, and then produce separate DVOA ratings for that three-game period for curiosity's sake.

With Alabama holding serve as the nation's top team, Brian Fremeau explains how good play-by-play teams can still struggle drive-by-drive -- and vice versa.
