I look at why Cam Newton's press conference grumble-puss routine is really a problem and go out of my way NOT to explore what Colin Kaepernick's mediocrity says about 'Murica.

The Baltimore Ravens this morning fired offensive coordinator Marc Trestman in the wake of yesterday's 16-10 loss to Washington. Trestman, notorious at times for gleefully abandoning the run, called 50 passes to just 18 runs even though Terrence West and Buck Allen were averaging more yards per play running than Joe Flacco was throwing. Marty Mornhinweg, who had been serving as quarterbacks coach, replaces him.

As Bill James always pointed out, the best managers and coaches will use players in ways which accentuate their strengths and hide their weaknesses. So when you put a player in a position that accentuates his weaknesses, is it really right to blame him when it goes badly? Nobody ever said Bene' Benwikere was one of the best cornerbacks in the league. He's better suited to play the slot than the outside.

Gotta remember to keep posting these. This week's Digest is a glorified reason to pile on the Jets and complain for the umpteenth time about how boring Ravens football is.
Guest columnist Zachary O. Binney looks the effects of the removal of the "Probable" designation from the NFL's official injury reports.
