Kwame Harris Still Sucks, Still Starting

Here's an awesome one.

Tom Cable benched Kwame Harris at halftime after a pair of false starts (bringing him up to a league-high nine) on the final drive of the first half. Good, right?

They brought in Mario Henderson. Henderson, according to Cable after the game, played well.

That was only till after film day, of course, as Cable then realized that Henderson had, in fact, sucked.

Now, if only because of how much his backup sucks, Kwame Harris is starting at tackle for the Raiders again.

Seriously, at this point, they might prefer "Hole In Line" or "Blown Blocker".

Cable, who is also the offensive line coach, said they work on fixing the problem each week in practice, using crowd noise and other things to help Harris get over it.

Perhaps practising in deadly silence would be better preparation for a home game?

This is the first time I've heard a coach admit that his in-game assessment of a player was garbage. I dread to think what kind of adjustments Cable's staff are making, based on their incorrect analysis of the game. I guess, as he's offensive line coach, Cable doesn't have an assistant watching the linemen full-time. Perhaps he should.

Jim Fassell must really be hurting from the credit crunch.

I was going to say... is a hole in the line what an offense would be looking for?

The 10-minute Kwame Harris lowlight reel from 2006 has been pulled from Youtube, but still can be found here.

I just get a black screen, and 80's music. I'm mostly thankful.

"Tom Cable benched Kwame Harris at halftime after a pair of false starts (bringing him up to a league-high nine)"
.
I heard the commentator in the Cowboys game say that LT Flozel Adams, but maybe that's total penalties - and I can not find it anywhere on the web. Wich is odd.

I'm pretty sure when they threw that stat up on the screen it was for the last two years combined.

by Wait, what? (not verified) :: Tue, 11/18/2008 - 1:43pm

Kwame Harris: bad football player

Kwame Brown: bad basketball player

Kwame Kilpatrick: bad mayor

So, um... if you were thinking about naming your kid "Kwame," maybe you should reconsider.

Kwame, from Africa: awesome Planeteer

by masoch (not verified) :: Wed, 11/19/2008 - 3:10am

Yeah... I'd *much* rather name my child something like Keyon'dre so he can be a good burger flipper instead. Who needs that 'bad millionaire' nonsense.

by bravehoptoad :: Tue, 11/18/2008 - 2:16pm

He's a good right tackle. He's a good run blocker. Why people keep casting him at left tackle is beyond me.

by tuluse :: Tue, 11/18/2008 - 4:49pm

I'm pretty sure the 49ers tried him at right tackle, and he still sucked. He might be a good guard. That's about it.

by jimbohead :: Tue, 11/18/2008 - 6:33pm

IIRC, the consensus in SF was that he was too small (read: weak) to be a guard. Plus, remember how the ALY on the right side jumped in 2007 relative to 2006, even when the rest of the offense turned into a big ball of suck? That happens to be when Staley replaced Harris at RT. Yup.

by TLivingston :: Tue, 11/18/2008 - 2:17pm

You know, while DeAngelo Hall got released and such, someone thought it was a good idea to KEEP Harris around? As if somehow, he's the guy who is better for the team? When your one "strength" (run blocking) all of a sudden becomes average and you cost the team with penalty after penalty, and then on top of that, can't pass block for anything...yeah, you shouldn't be a team's starting tackle. Just saying.

Once upon a time, there was a day in which "Commitment to Excellence" and "Kwame Harris" could not be used to describe the same entity.

by DangerGnat :: Tue, 11/18/2008 - 3:13pm

So, to sum up: Raiders prefer blown blocker. Therefore both Kwame Harris and backup suck.

Wasn't there also a Kwame on The Apprentice several years ago? Didn't he lose in the finals? Still searching for a successful Kwame...

by ammek :: Wed, 11/19/2008 - 5:30am

Well, it depends on your perspective, but they're all named after this dude.

by pressrow :: Tue, 11/18/2008 - 5:02pm

Kwame Harris was, indeed, a poor right tackle for the 49ers. He can't deal with any kind of speed rush whatsoever, and he isn't strong enough in pass blocking to stop the bull rush ends either.

He posses decent guard skills in a light-bodied tackle's frame. That's how he keeps getting mis-positioned. If he were 6'4", he could be a good guard someplace.

by Raiderjoe :: Tue, 11/18/2008 - 8:03pm

Harris not good. Kiffin , Harris and some others have really urt team this seaosn. Going to evealuer everything anfd everyplayer in offseason and team going to move up in division in 2009. Still chance at division title in 2008 but stupid Kiffin messed up too many things and ruined season. New head coach will have a lot of talent to work with and will get team in playoffs. Jamarcus Russell going to be great Qb and most great ones blussum in their thrid seaons

Can't they just move him to Guard like their other crappy tackles?

A narrow minded person would say you can only do that twice. But that's wrong - the Raiders could be the first team to start one center and four guards!

No tackles = no crappy tackles.

by Raiderjoe :: Tue, 11/18/2008 - 9:27pm

Is poster drunk?
even if tackles moved to guard they would still be tackles unless tackles line up on top of guards. that would be only chance for 4 guard and 0 tackles alinement. Team would probably get penalty for leverage like on field goal trys when one guy jump on back of teammate. So lining up on top of teammate is probably against ruels. R Gallery strong enough to be on bottom but most guards couldnt handle a guy on their back.
It is rule that 7 players have to be on line of scrimmage (usually cen,ter, guards, tacles, te, and wr.)
Lets see if tackles move to guard they would still be tackles unless guards move to tackles but that would just be flip so still 2 takcles and 2 guard.s.

magnificent

I'm gonna go ahead and count that as a win. kthxbye!

by taxistan :: Wed, 11/19/2008 - 2:51am

This just in: Al Davis has signed Kwame to a #16,000,000 contract. $8,000,000 is guaranteed if Kwame does not commit more then 8 [eight] false start penalties next year.

"Kwame Harris Still Sucks, Still Starting "

Couldn't this be said about everyone on the Raiders except for 1 certain DB? The article should just read:

Kwayme Harris, your typical Raider

by danny (not verified) :: Thu, 11/20/2008 - 12:43am

Unfortunately, the video is not appearing. I hear the sound (music/announcers) but it's just a black screen. I really wanted to show this lowlight video to my cousins lol

by lk6 (not verified) :: Thu, 11/20/2008 - 9:57am

I'm having the same problem here, danny. Does anyone know a way to fix it?
