Marshall Putting Raiders' Asomugha In Cross Hairs

Brandon Marshall has respect for Nnamdi Asomugha, but says that he's "hunting DB's".

Any predictions on what his line will be on Sunday?

No, but I'm totally starting Eddie Royal in FF this week.

by Marcumzilla :: Fri, 11/21/2008 - 4:52pm

So am I. Maybe in every league that I can.

by zip (not verified) :: Fri, 11/21/2008 - 3:01pm

2 rec, 29 yards.

by Danish Denver-Fan :: Fri, 11/21/2008 - 3:05pm

3 catches 25 yards.

And this comes from a bronco-fan.

by forcefulmuffin (not verified) :: Fri, 11/21/2008 - 3:10pm

he might grab some balls when he's up against johnson or routte but he has no chance against this guy, he is hands down the best corner in the league.

2 balls, 35 yards

by Shattenjager :: Fri, 11/21/2008 - 3:39pm

1 catch, 36 yards, 2 interceptions with him targeted

Brandon Marshall may have just proven that he is in fact the dumbest player in the NFL.

by Unverified Telamon (not verified) :: Fri, 11/21/2008 - 3:44pm

Hey, at least he's drawing attention to how good double-n is.

by andrew :: Fri, 11/21/2008 - 4:07pm

I seriously think that Asomugha should legally change his name to that of the other DB, and have him do likewise, for a week. Just to see if the Broncos are paying attention.

by The Ninjalectual :: Fri, 11/21/2008 - 9:09pm

Then Reebok would charge them for every unsold jersey left in stores across the world. Reebok should die for depriving us of Ocho Cinco.

by The Hypno-Toad :: Fri, 11/21/2008 - 4:13pm

Wow, Marshall's comment really wasn't as dumb as I thought it was going to be from the FO headline, much more tongue-in-cheek and quite respectful in a way. I'd pretty much written him off for this week anyway, since if Cutler can't stop himself from throwing at Nnamdi, I will seriously have to wonder about whether or not he will *ever* get smarter.
Man, where's D'Angelo Hall when you need a consistently open second option?

by dbt :: Fri, 11/21/2008 - 5:08pm

I haven't watched a raiders game in 4 weeks, but I might have to watch this.

I was saying two weeks ago that NA should have borrowed one of DeAngelo Hall's jerseys.

by Tracy (not verified) :: Fri, 11/21/2008 - 7:05pm

I was just wondering if Asomugha's lack of targets are as much a function of the extreme drop-off in ability to the guy on the opposite side of the field as they are a function of his brilliance. We all know Hall was an extreme liability, can anybody say whether Routte is any better? After all, even if a receiver beats Asomugha, it's likely that the guy on the other side of the field is even more wide open. Why bother testing him if you don't have to?

by Whatev (not verified) :: Fri, 11/21/2008 - 8:23pm

Asomugha must be bored out there. When they show him lining up before the snap, he actually seems to have a very casual stance--no tension whatsoever--to the point where I would think that he'd begun phoning it in if it weren't for the fact that occasionally he'll dash into the backfield and stuff a runner.

by Temo :: Fri, 11/21/2008 - 5:55pm

Fine, I'll be the one to go against the grain. And I'll need some semi-coherent reasoning, right? Well, ok... all CBs make mistakes, everyone is human, and Cutler loves throwing to Marshall. Also Marshall might be the best receiver Asomugha's faced all year, so if anyone is going to break him, it'll be him.

I'll go 4 balls for 80 yards a TD. Maybe Marshall will get break one for a TD and I'll look like a genius. Maybe.

by Not Saying :: Mon, 11/24/2008 - 6:07am

Very close, though there wasn't a TD. Not sure how many were directed Asomugha's way.

by Rich Conley (not verified) :: Fri, 11/21/2008 - 7:53pm

Has Dre Bly in Denver really been any better than Hall was in oakland? It seems to me that teams are going to complete 60%+ of passes, and one of the CBs is going to get abused, no matter how good he is.

His comments weren't at all disrespectful if you read the article. It seems like about half the Extra Points these days put a different spin on things than the articles they link to. It's getting kind of annoying, FO guys.

by Not Saying :: Mon, 11/24/2008 - 6:09am

"Brandon Marshall has respect for Nnamdi Asomugha, but says that he's 'hunting DB's'."

What about that implies that Marshall was disrespectful? The part that says that he was respectful? Where's the spin?

by Raiderjoe :: Fri, 11/21/2008 - 8:21pm

Raiders going to shut down Marshall. N Asomugha best shitdown corner in league. Even if Asomugha gets hurt and misses a few plays or if coaching staff make him cover Royal Routt going to do a fine job on other side. No worries about Raiders cornerbacks That is for sure.
Big question going to be Raiders offense vs broncos defense. If Russell and McFadden are can stay in game Raiders should win 24-14 or something like that. Broncos banged up all over and so what if they beat falcobs last week, Falcons not good team anyway.
Raiders not happy with Week 1 game. Had different coach which was main reason for loss. L Kiffin couldnt coach way out of paper bag.

by The Ninjalectual :: Fri, 11/21/2008 - 9:11pm

And the best shitdown RB? Najeh Davenport.

by Watt (not verified) :: Fri, 11/21/2008 - 10:11pm

that just won the topic

by The Hypno-Toad :: Fri, 11/21/2008 - 10:23pm

I'm pretty sure this is the first time I've seen raiderjoe post since the site redesign. It's really a nice feeling.

by old :: Sat, 11/22/2008 - 12:43pm

Raider Joe,

I just bought a new hat with the logo of my favorite team. I will make you a wager, if the Raiders win 24-14, I will eat that hat, and if the Raiders lose by nine points or more, what will you consume?

Raiders not happy with Week 1 game. Had different coach which was main reason for loss. L Kiffin couldnt coach way out of paper bag.

I read a Raiderjoe comment several months ago that stated Kiffin was going to win coach of the year. Must have been some other Raiderjoe who posted under your name.

If the bronco's are smart, they will just line up Marshall on the offenses right and send whatever scrub WR they want to the left, since the Raiders don't shadow WR's with their best CB.

Against Nnamdi, Marshall gets 1 catch for 8 yards.

Against Johnson and Routte, Marshall gets another 6 for 80.

by Mr B (not verified) :: Sat, 11/22/2008 - 10:04am

Sorry Raiderjoe has lost it if he thinks Kiffin was worse than Cable or even doing a bad job. Come on Al, roll over and pass this team on to someone else.

by ChicagoRaider (not verified) :: Sat, 11/22/2008 - 12:25pm

I guess the question is, with a cocky young player at QB, how does Asomugha do? 2 receptions, 60 yards, 1TD?

by Raiderjoe :: Sat, 11/22/2008 - 1:05pm

To old,

Earlier in season thought Kiffin was going to be coach of year. Young team on rise and good players all over. But he proved he cant coach. T Cable not answer either. Bill Cowher or Jim Fassel got good chance to be next Raiders coach.

To ChicaogRaider,
If Asomugha get a pass thrown his way good chance he going to pick one off.

To old,
I will eat sock if Raiders lose by 9 pints or more. Porbably not going to happen. Better chance Raiders win by 9 points,.

by The Ninjalectual :: Sat, 11/22/2008 - 10:25pm

In the event of a tie, there will be a drink-off at J.T. O'Sullivan's. The Raiders will win by 9 pints or more.

by Bright Blue Shorts :: Sun, 11/23/2008 - 11:35am

The Raider defense has looked a lot better the past couple of weeks against Carolina and Miami since they waived Hall.

I think what used to happen is that opponenets would get to about 3rd & 7; Hall would line up 10 yards deep and, bingo, easy completion for first down to extend the drive, again, again and again.

The Raiders did a great job of shutting down Steve Smith - only 2 or 3 catches for 20 yards; and they're a bit fragile against the run. I don't see Marshall putting up big numbers if the Broncos can rediscover their running game.

by Key19 :: Mon, 11/24/2008 - 3:21am

I'll guess about 4 for 84 for Marshall.

by MainerRaider (not verified) :: Mon, 11/24/2008 - 9:50am

Oakland 31, Denver 10. I don't think that poster above will be eating his unnamed team hat, but Raiderjoe will be in a posting frenzy soon.

by Raiderjoe :: Mon, 11/24/2008 - 6:47pm

Raiders ripped apart Broncos , but becuase it wasn't by score 24-14, old does not have to eat hat.

by mm (not verified) :: Mon, 11/24/2008 - 8:04pm

very gracious of you Raiderjoe!

by Stevie :: Mon, 11/24/2008 - 9:28pm

I've been waiting all year for the Radiers to play like that. While veryone has been piling on and admitteldly the offense has sucked we lost heartbreakers to the Bills, Chargers and Panthers and beat the Jets and Broncos. We're not as far away as everyone thinks. i hope this means more RJ on these boards!
