Wow, the NFC West just got crushed this weekend. You already knew about Carson Palmer tearing his ACL. This morning, we have reports that the Seahawks have lost defensive tackle Brandon Mebane for the year with a torn hamstring. He's probably the most important player in their front seven. And there are reports that Patrick Willis' turf toe is so bad that the 49ers will be forced to put him on injured reserve. Ugh. The Seahawks have Kevin Williams to plug in for Mebane, but depth is a serious problem on that defensive line.

Peter King still has faith in "the NFC's best team." Plus: how the Lions have eliminated "dumb mistakes," the Jets' keys to shutting down Pittsburgh's aerial attack, and the Bears' chances of turning their season around (spoiler: slim).

Carson Palmer was not the only prominent starter on a playoff contender who will miss the rest of the season.

Also, the Bears make the rest of us hate them as much as they hate themselves.

The kicker just got thrown out the window. And he was on fire.

Carson Palmer, who was set to be a free agent at the end of the season, has signed a three-year extension with the Arizona Cardinals. ESPN's Adam Schefter says the deal is worth about $50 million in total value.

In this week's Sunday Night Football column, I examine the decline in Brandon Marshall's DVOA. As the headline indicates, it's all about downfield throws.

We all know that Thursday night football feels extra sloppy. And it logically seems like it should be extra sloppy, since players haven't had a full week to recover from Sunday's games. But as others have done before, Kevin Seifert has run numbers showing that Thursday games do not in fact feature more injuries or less scoring. There are more turnovers, but also fewer penalties and the same number of dropped passes as in other games.

Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson has reached a plea agreement with Texas prosecutors that will keep him out of jail. That does not mean he will be on an NFL field anytime soon.
Peterson, who was facing up to two years in prison on child abuse charges, has agreed to plea no contest to one count of misdemeanor reckless assault. Peterson will be placed on probation and will pay a $4,000 fine and serve 80 hours of community service. He also will take parenting classes, and if he completes his probation without incident, there won't be a conviction on his record.

The NFL has announced its trio of International Series games. They may as well dump the "International" name for "London," which is where all the games are. Regardless, playing in Wembley next year will be:

A look at fourth-down decision making in 2014 highlights Sean Payton, Marc Trestman, and... wait, this can't be right... Jim Caldwell? Plus: Chip Kelly may be less aggressive than you think he is.
