This week: Is it sometimes better to go without star receivers? Sunday's Bengals performance seems to suggest so, and even the Chargers have a higher DVOA this year without Antonio Gates than they do with him -- he's been amazing, but the rest of the offense hasn't been quite as good when he's in the lineup. Likely coincidence, but still interesting.

Rusty Smith or Kerry Collins, does it really matter? If the Titans make the playoffs, they'll do it with defense and special teams -- and even in an upset loss, those two units still came to play against Washington.

Patriots fans will choke on their lunches, or whatever else they are eating in front of their computers, when they see just how much Wes Welker and the Pats tight ends have struggled without Randy Moss around to draw the safeties deep.

Normally, Any Given Sunday looks at what we can learn from an upset about a team's weaknesses going forward. But sometimes, an upset is just an upset, and this was one of those weeks. Plus: Why Colt McCoy's early accuracy is nothing special.
