In the second part of his recent ESPN Insider series on recruiting, our own Bill Connelly looks at which teams and conferences have been getting better (Big East) or worse (Pac-10).

Re: ESPN: Recruiting on the Rise and in Decline
Kudos to Bill for using the correct "non-AQ conference" terminology. The WAC, MWC, CUSA, MAC, and Sun Belt conferences are all part of the BCS.
Always cracks me up when I see people say "non-BCS teams" - really? Why are you bringing up Army and Navy? Because those are the only two teams in the FBS that aren't part of the BCS.
Re: ESPN: Recruiting on the Rise and in Decline
Seems kind of nitpicky. When people use the (common parlance, even if not 100% technically accurate) "non-BCS" phrase you know what they are talking about.
Re: ESPN: Recruiting on the Rise and in Decline
I thought the whole point of the FO comment boards was to be nitpicky?
Re: ESPN: Recruiting on the Rise and in Decline
Touché.
Re: ESPN: Recruiting on the Rise and in Decline
I don't mean to nitpick, but (1) "nitpicky" isn't really a word and (2) your comment is not a question, but you have ended the sentence with a question mark.
In truth, I loved your comment and am just trying to get in on the game!
(Ever noticed how anyone who starts a comment with something like "I don't mean to nitpick" immediately refutes their own words? Of course I mean to nitpick--the entire point of my comment is to nitpick. I don't know why this is the conversational convention--"I don't mean to pry, but..." "I hate to tell you this, but...")
Re: ESPN: Recruiting on the Rise and in Decline
Don't forget "With all due respect" and "No offense, but..." No list is complete without those two.
Re: ESPN: Recruiting on the Rise and in Decline
Ha! How could I have neglected to mention those?!
I'm getting a lot of smiles and even a few laughs out of this thread. As I've mentioned elsewhere on FO, one of the best things about this website is that the football commentary is excellent, and some of the tangents are even more entertaining than the football commentary. Thanks.
Re: ESPN: Recruiting on the Rise and in Decline
Yeah, it's just because "non-BCS" and "BCS" implies that there are "insider" conferences in control of the system. In truth, conferences are given an autoberth based on multi-year evaluations of final performance - it's fairly impartial, so there's a straightforward way for, say, the MWC to become an AQ conference (which they probably will in 2 years).
Re: ESPN: Recruiting on the Rise and in Decline
And today Lane Kiffin offered a football scholarship to a seventh grade student....
Re: ESPN: Recruiting on the Rise and in Decline
Why bother to do that when you're not going to be there when that kid hits high school?
