ESPN: FSU Needs Balance To Contend

Among top-15 teams in our FEI ratings last season, Florida State was the only one to produce an offensive or defensive unit ranked outside the top 50 (54th in OFEI). Dramatic improvement on one side of the ball from year to year isn't unprecedented, but in the last five seasons, only the 2009 Oklahoma Sooners made a major offensive leap in efficiency from the previous season while maintaining an elite defense. Florida State will need to do the same in order to ultimately join the national championship conversation in 2012.

The Florida State offense was so anemic last year that it would take little to demonstrate significant improvement. The young O-line gave reason for hope in the bowl game's second half, and the WR's will be a deep and talented crew. I expect the running game to pick up significantly & take pressure off E. J..
