ESPN: Luckiest and Unluckiest College Teams

For the most part, you are what your record says you are. But as we know, some college football games are impacted by good and bad fortune more than others. Some teams have an inordinately strong or weak record in one-possession games. Some teams benefit from turnovers, field position and special teams more than others. Is it luck? Not necessarily, but these can be indicators that a change of fortune is in store for next season.

In this two-part article for ESPN Insider, we identify five of the luckiest teams and five of the unluckiest teams this season, and the factors that will impact their fortunes next year.

I usually avoid the word "luck" in my vocabulary, I don't believe there is such a thing as luck or bad luck. College football makes no exception and I find it hard to accept that I am supporting a team with a success rate that depends on luck.
