ESPN: Atlanta's Shrinking Title Window

Using a new measure of team age based on snap count data, we show that the Falcons have fielded the oldest team in the league this season. Does the Falcons' relative old age doom their future Super Bowl chances? Age concerns are especially prevalent on defense, and along the offensive line.

It's a little sad that instead of articles praising the Falcons for having a great season and finding ways to win, all we ever get is articles predicting imminent doom and failure.

I can't imagine the amount of pressure that's going to be on the Falcons in that first playoff game.

Actually, I think the team would improve if some of these older players are gone next season. Gonzo is an excellent possession TE, but he's an awful blocker. Turner's done. And McClure (the center) is below average and will be gone too. I would say the only key player older than 31 expected to be back next year is Abraham.

A few keys guys in the 30-31 range (Babineaux, Clabo, Samuel, White, Robinson) but they aren't ready for the pasture yet.
