It's rare that you can see the obvious effect of a missing player other than a quarterback, but it is pretty clear when looking at the numbers for the Pittsburgh defense with and without Troy Polamalu since 2008.

Offensive line problems highlight the needs in the NFC North ... except in Chicago, which is kind of unsettling to think about.

ISTM that WOW stats are the next obvious place for FO to start looking. In a game where it's hard-to-impossible to isolate a single player, you gotta take the natural experiments where you can find them.
Also, I wonder if Mundy is a replacement-level backup. I know he's very good on special teams, but I really feel like the Steelers could use an upgrade there.

We saw this in 2009 when Brian Urlacher was out with a dislocated wrist -- the Bears D fell off a cliff that year.
It'll be interesting to see how the Jets fare this year without Revis as another test.

Didn't we also get this with Indy and Bob Sanders? Several times.
