ESPN: Impact of Third Down in SB XLVIII

The Seahawks have the best third-down pass defense (by DVOA) since 1989. The Broncos, after having the fourth-best last season, have one of the very worst. That would seem to favor Seattle on both sides of the ball, but the Seahawks have been a poor third-down offense in recent weeks and Denver has that outstanding offense (16-of-26 on third down in the playoffs). I dug into our game-charting stats for this matchup, which is still painfully more than a week away.

Sad paywall makes me sad.

Am I mistaken, or is this just a promotion for ESPN Insider subscription...?

The stuff that FO does for ESPN is all Insider material, and that's what "ESPN" in the post title means. It really is a link to work that FO has done, albeit behind the paywall.

Maybe it's time to pony up that $3 a month for insider. It's worth it

giving the Worldwide Leader money for the "privilege" of reading football analysis they outsourced is never worth it. They would create a paywall for people attending their own funeral.

Besides FO already got paid to do the work so I don't even feel bad.

Usually I just read the premise of the article and hope to piece it together from the comments. I still think Snow= Seahawks no snow= toss up. I'm a Denver fan but that defense just looks insane.
